PETERS TOWNSHIP NEWS
This summer, Peters Township appointed Sue Miller to the position of Assistant Director for the Peters Township Public Library. Miller, a graduate of Bethel Park High School, is married to her husband Tim and has four children: Emily, Audrey, Bonny and Will. She grew up in Bethel Park, moved away for a time and then moved back to the area 20 years ago. Following high school, Miller attended Grove City College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering. She worked for eight years as an engineer at both J. C. Penny in the state of California and Black & Decker in Maryland.
When her oldest child was born, she quit working as an engineer and became a stay at home mom. During this time, Miller volunteered at her children’ s elementary school’ s library, and it was there that she developed her love of the library. She returned to school in her early 40’ s to earn her Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University.
Miller has worked part time for the Peters Township Public Library for nine years as the Administrative Assistant. As Assistant Director, she will oversee the day to day operations of the library, as well as work closely with the Library Director on developing and administering the library budget, planning and implementing library programming and long-range planning.

“ My hope is to continue to work with the library staff to provide an unbiased wealth of information, programming and resources, while spreading the word to the community about all of the wonderful things we have to offer!” says Miller.
Miller’ s future plans include organizing and hosting the“ Thinking Money” Exhibition developed by the American Library Association Public Programs Office in collaboration with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.“ The purpose of this exhibition is to bring financial literacy information to tweens, teens and their families through an adventurethemed storyline, interactive iPad content and other fun activities,” says Miller. This exhibition was granted to only 50 libraries across the country, and Peters Township Public Library was the only library in Pennsylvania awarded this opportunity. The exhibition will be at the library from Mar. 28 through May 4, 2017.
Miller’ s favorite thing about Peters Township is, of course, the library!“ We have a phenomenal staff that strives to provide a variety of resources, a welcoming space and informative programs for the community,” she says.“ I am so grateful for the overwhelming support I have had from my co-workers at the library, township staff, family and friends during my transition into this new position.” Miller also notes special thanks to Pier M. Lee, who would not accept“ no” for an answer as she tried to bring Miller onto the library staff on several occasions.

Peters Township Parks and Recreation Naming Rights
On Aug. 8 Peters Township Council approved a Naming Rights Policy presented to them by the Parks and Recreation Board. This new policy allows the naming or renaming of parks and recreational facilities. This is a complex process, as a name is a powerful and permanent identity for a public place. The policy provides guidance to those that have an interest in the naming and / or renaming of a park or recreational facility. The naming or renaming will be reserved for circumstances that will best serve the interests of the Township, and ensure a worthy enduring legacy for the Township’ s Parks and Recreation system.
To this end, Peters Township Parks and Recreation supports consideration of naming requests within the following broad categories: Historic events, people and places, outstanding individuals and major gifts. All requests should be submitted in writing to the Parks and Recreation Director to be considered by the Parks and Recreation Board, who will make a recommendation to Council regarding a final decision. Details about naming, renaming and the process to submit a proposal are included in the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Naming Rights Policy which can be found on our website at peterstownship. com.
