“ This is exactly how youth sports should look — I ’ m feeling extra proud to be a part of PT youth sports ,” said Katherine Meucci .
Her son Mario , age 8 , just wrapped up his third season of baseball . “ He ’ s still learning and doesn ’ t love the sport yet , admittedly because he doesn ’ t feel confident .”
One evening , Mario made a fantastic catch in the outfield to end the game . He ’ d been working hard on pop-ups and finally one happened for him , at just the right time . “ The crowd cheered and I went wild in the stands ,” said Meucci . “ Mario beamed .”
During the after-game team meeting , the coach announced Mario as the recipient of the game ball for his great play in the field . “ His coach could have chosen the players who crushed the ball , inning after inning each time they stepped up to the plate ,” she continued . “ He could have honored the players who made diving catches or turned double plays . He could have selected the players who had the most RBIs or scored the most runs . But , he chose the kid who had a very average , though good , game . His choice to make a big deal about this kid will likely have a greater impact than he might ever know . I ’ m sure Mario ’ s confidence and love for the game grew in his heart because of Coach Jason .”
Mario ’ s coach , Jason DiAngelo , is a local baseball legend who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 27th round of the 2003 MLB June Amateur Draft from West Virginia University . “ I ’ ve been at every practice and game and have been continually impressed by the way he aims to build each player up and grow them in areas of their individual need ,” said Meucci .
“ He teaches kids baseball , keeps it fun , leads by example , and encourages them to be better at every turn . I hope all kids in youth sports get to have a Coach Jason .”
LABOURÉ LADIES GUILD TO HOLD ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW
The Labouré Ladies Guild will hold its annual Joy of Christmas Craft Show on Saturday , Nov . 18 , from 9 a . m . to 3:30 p . m . at St . Louise de Marillac School and Le Gras Parish Center , located at 320 McMurray Road in Upper St . Clair . The event will include more than 100 artists and craftsmen , a Chinese auction , a bake sale and refreshments . The $ 2 admission includes a ticket for the auction .

Get ready to see beautiful roses ! The Pittsburgh Rose Society in association with Mt . Lebanon Public Library will host the Third Annual David McKibben Rose Expo from 1 to 4 p . m . Saturday , Sept . 2 , at the library on Castle Shannon Boulevard in Mt . Lebanon . This event is free and open to the public , all ages .
A rose exposition is an event where local rose growers display their roses in various classes . Unlike a rose show , the roses at the expo will not be judged .

KEYNOTES OF SOUTH HILLS TO HOST ANNUAL FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON

Dominique Schuster is the head coach of the Peters Township High School dance team and Barbara Deliere is an assistant coach . Dominique danced for the Upper St . Clair dance team in high school , not Peters Township ’ s . And finally , the Chartiers Valley dance team was not started by the coaches of the PTHS dance team .
