STAR PARTY For all ages Saturday , Sept . 16 , 8 to 9:30 p . m . Multi-Purpose Room , 1st floor and Library Parking Lot Enjoy a night of viewing the stars , planets , galaxies , and nebula . Our night will begin with a presentation from our local Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh . Find out what you can see in our galaxy , the “ Milky Way ,” plus galaxies millions of miles away , and learn about constellations you can see from Pittsburgh . After the presentation , we invite you to go outside and look through the volunteers ’ telescopes . Did you get a telescope for the holidays and don ’ t know how to set it up ? Our volunteers will be happy to answer equipment and set up questions . This is an after-hours event that takes place in and outside the library . Registration is required . Participants aged 15 and under should be accompanied by an adult .
ERESOURCES EXPLORATION For all ages Tuesday , Sept . 19 , 3 to 3:45 p . m . Hybrid event – Reading Room or join online Explore World Book Encyclopedia Online , one of the free eResources provided by the library ! This online resource features the same expert information found in the print version , with a consolidated layout that makes finding research tools , videos , and audio easier than ever . Technology and Makerspace Librarian Sarah Quinn will teach you to access World Book Encyclopedia Online and navigate the resource . Registration is required . If you are attending virtually , we will email you a Zoom link in a confirmation email .
COSTUME SWAP For all ages Saturday , Oct . 7 , 10 a . m . to 12 noon Multi-Purpose Room , 1st floor It ’ s back ! Instead of purchasing new costumes yearly , we encourage the community to swap their slightly used costumes to save resources , packaging , transportation , and money . You can participate by dropping off gently used costumes for children , teens , or adults on Thursday , Oct . 5 , from 5 to 8 p . m . or Friday , Oct . 6 , from 1 to 4 p . m . Costumes should be in GREAT condition . Participants will get a token for each costume donated . Return Saturday , Oct . 7 , from 10 a . m . to 12 noon with your tokens to shop for a swap . The swap starts promptly at 10 a . m . Please do not arrive before 9:45 a . m . to line up for entry . We will donate any costumes and accessories remaining to a local charity .

Did you know a ring-tailed lemur ’ s tail is longer than its entire body ? If you want to learn more about these fascinating creatures , you can ’ t miss Lemur Love Saturday ! Ms . Linda has a story and a video for you , followed by a make-alemur workshop . Each child participating must register . Sorry , we cannot accept any walk-ins !
NATIONAL AVIARY OWL ENCOUNTER For Grades 1 to 4 Tuesday , Aug . 15 , 10 to 11 a . m . Multi-Purpose Room , 1st floor Owls are some of the most recognizable birds on Earth . Yet , they remain elusive to many because of their habits and behaviors . You will encounter Animal Ambassador owls from around the world and discover the adaptations that make them successful hunters day and night . Please register each child attending this program .
COOKING CLASS WITH MS . BLUEBERRY For Grades K to 3 Thursday , Sept . 21 , 6:30 to 7:30 p . m . Multi-Purpose Room , 1st floor Your child will join Ms . Blueberry as she teaches us how to create healthy snacks and meals . She aims to educate children on healthy , simple snacks and meals and allow them to express their creativity in a small group setting . Children will have increased confidence in themselves and what they can do in the kitchen as they grow . Registration is required for each child participating .
