SAYING GOODBYE TO OUR COLLEAGUES
A
s the school year came to an
end, Peters Township celebrated
the retirement of several of our
colleagues from throughout
the District. Whether their role was in the
classroom or behind the wheel driving a
school bus, these dedicated individuals all
played an important role in our schools and
community during their time here. We thank
them for their service and wish them well in
their retirement.

GET TO KNOW: BRAD RAU, DISTRICT BUSINESS
MANAGER
I
n any visit to our
schools you will
encounter talented
and dedicated
individuals who work
hard to make Peters
Township one of the
best Districts in the
Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. While the majority of
our staff members work directly with
our students, some work behind the
scenes to ensure that the District runs
smoothly and our students and staff have
everything they need. This issue, we
would like everyone to Get to Know Mr.
Brad Rau, who heads up the business
operations of our schools. Among
his many responsibilities are the
development of the annual budget,
overseeing the facilities and grounds
operations and management of the
District’s contractual agreements.
plan for our future. Our School Board has
set a precedent for prudent planning
and we work regularly with the Board
to make sure that we are meeting those
expectations.
What is the most unusual part of
your job?
I’m not sure that anyone would call
“accounting” unusual, but I think most
people would be surprised that we
handle all of the ordering for the entire
District – down to every pencil and paper.
What other interesting jobs have
you held?
During college, I worked for the
Gateway Clipper. I really enjoyed working
outside during the summer and the job
eventually led to an internship in their
accounting department.
What are your favorite things to do
outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and
children; and we are all big Pittsburgh
Sports fans – Steelers, Pirates, Penguins
and Pitt.
What does a typical day look like in
the Business Office?
There is not a typical day for us.
Right now we often have construction
related meetings to be sure that our
project is moving forward, but we
could also be working on the budget,
audits, payroll, or any number of
things.
How early do you start working on
the new budget each year?
The District budget is really a
year-round project. The Board
approves a new budget each
June, but throughout the year we
monitor spending and start making
projections for any changes coming
in the new year. We monitor financial
trends and also work with our
Administration to look ahead for the
next five to ten years so that we can
