LOOP IN THE C O N T I N U E D the volunteers put in hundreds of hours through the spring, summer and early fall receiving, unpacking, pricing and ultimately displaying the high-quality, gently used items. In the past, Friends of Hospice has donated many items to make patients’ (and their families’) lives more comfortable and as pain-free as possible. The goal is to enhance care and comfort to those with life-limiting illnesses. The most visible gift from the Friends has been a white truck, which bears the message “Vehicle donated by the Friends of Family Hospice.” The group is made up of many dedicated volunteers who live throughout the South Hills communities. Local support has made the sale a real community event. It would not exist without the loving support of local residents. Friends donates 100% of the proceeds of the sale to Family Hospice & Palliative Care. The Friends of Family Hospice & Palliative Care is an all-volunteer auxiliary group that raises funds and awareness of the hospice program. The facility is located at 50 Moffett Street, Mt. Lebanon (15243). Many of the volunteers and patients are from surrounding communities such as Chartiers Valley, South Fayette, Peters Twp., Upper St. Clair and more. Family Hospice & Palliative Care is the largest nonprofit hospice in the state, serving many area counties. PETERS TOWNSHIP FARMERS MARKET OPEN THROUGH SEPT. 25! A large variety of prepared foods are available as well as visiting food trucks like Cousin’s Main Lobster Rolls and Franktuary. “Farmers Market is my favorite time of year! My children and I look forward to going every Wednesday to see our favorite vendors and catch up with our neighbors and friends. It’s a great spot to grab the week’s groceries, catch a bite to eat and sit and listen to local musicians,” says Peters resident Samantha McVicker. The Farmers Market features live entertainment from local performers and demonstrations from local community groups. New this year is a Children’s Entertainment Booth, featuring local icmags.com businesses that offer goods and services for children. Patrons can participate in free activities to learn more about what the businesses offer. Some businesses include Music Together and Fired Up Pottery Studio. If your business would like to participate or your musical group would like to perform, please email [email protected]. The purpose of the market is to provide an opportunity to farmers and artisans in the region to sell what they produce directly to the South Hills and Peters residents. The Board of Directors is made up of nine local volunteer moms and Rev. Kris Opat of St. David’s Episcopal Church. They share a passion for sustainable farming and buying local fresh products for their families. They hope to encourage relationships between producer and consumer and limit the distance foods and goods travel from farm to table.
