WHAT’S NEWS IN PETERS TOWNSHIP SOUTHPOINTE CEO ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2020 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Southpointe CEO Association (SPCEOA) is pleased to announce that the 2020 SPCEOA scholarship program is now accepting applications. Celebrating and encouraging leadership development in business, community, and education, the SPCEOA will award up to two $5,000 scholarships to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in leadership and educational achievement. This program seeks to recognize Washington County residents who strive to improve their leadership skills and achieve higher levels of education. The SPCEOA scholarship program is open to individuals who are employees (or dependents of employees) of SPCEOA and/or Washington County Chamber of Commerce member organizations and reside in Washington County. The program was created to help provide support to those who seek to make a positive impact in the Washington County community through the completion of a college, post- graduate, or technical degree. The SPCEO Scholarship Program is open to eligible applicants who will be attending a college, post-secondary, or technical school during the 2020-21 academic year. The SPCEO awards these two scholarships in honor of Jack B. The SPCEO Scholarship awards will be announced in May 2020. WASHINGTON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOSTS 8TH ANNUAL WASHINGTON COUNTY: STATE OF THE ECONOMY The Washington County Chamber of Commerce hosted nearly 400 regional business leaders for the 8th Annual Washington County: State of the Economy presented by Community Bank event at the Hilton Garden Inn/Southpointe, Washington County. The event featured the Washington County Board of icmags.com Commissioners’ Annual Economic Development Report and Discussion. Washington County, as a leader in Pennsylvania in energy production and industrial/commercial development, continues to maintain its strong position among Southwestern Pennsylvania counties in terms of economic growth and job creation. To emphasize this growth, the Washington County Board of Commissioners joined with nearly 400 Washington County business leaders at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/ Southpointe to highlight 107 economic development projects that accounted for nearly $514 million in capital investment in Washington County during the past year. These projects were also complemented by over $6.9 million in additional investments the county made in 2019 through the Washington County Local Share Account (LSA)-a fund capitalized by gaming revenues. These LSA investments are being leveraged by an additional $26.5 million in public and private resources. In addition, the county’s manufacturing sector announced major expansions further solidifying the county’s positive economic position. “Washington County continues to maintain a leadership position in both our region and state in creating new economic growth, new job opportunities and county-wide expansion,” sayd Diana Irey Vaughan, Chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners. “In 2019, our public and private partners announced $513,872,181 in new business investment and an additional 930 created/ retained jobs in Washington County. This tremendous growth in business investment and job creation was driven by numerous sectors of our economy including energy, tourism, construction, manufacturing and infrastructure. We are proud of these successes especially in creating new job opportunities for our residents.”
