NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
April 7 through 13
SPECIAL NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK EVENT:
9/11 AND THE HEROES OF FLIGHT 93
Thursday, April 11,
7 p.m.
The Peters Township
Public Library, with
generous support from
Opeka Auto Repair, hosts
a National Library Week
special event. Remember
September 11, 2001 and
hear a firsthand account
of the day the nation
was under attack. Shortly
after the Pentagon
was hit, Mal Fuller, watch supervisor at the Pittsburgh
International Airport, evacuated the control tower and
radar room because a hijacked plane was flying directly
toward the airport. The plane was later identified as United
93. Fuller returned to the radar room after the evacuation
to see if there was still a threat to the airport, but the plane
was no longer under radar coverage. It had crashed in
Shanksville, Pennsylvania - sixty-eight nautical miles from
Pittsburgh International Airport and eight miles beyond
Pittsburgh’s radar range. Learn how the 40 Heroes of Flight
93 forever changed the course of history.

PETERS TOWNSHIP
In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the library
recognizes and thanks the many volunteers of all ages
who help us to serve our community throughout the
year. The Peters Township Public Library is a better place
because of the efforts of our PTPL Volunteer Friends.
These wonderful library volunteers generously give of
their time and make a difference by performing a myriad
of duties including shelf-reading, assisting with book
donations, keeping our café stocked, setting up for
programs, and so much more. Stop in to see our display
this month to get to know these caring community
members. Our Volunteer Friends will be recognized at a
tea hosted by the Peters Township Library
Foundation in April.

READ LOCAL
Come to the library for a real
treat! The library is hosting our
second annual Read Local/Eat
EAT LOCAL
Local event. We have invited
20 local authors to join us
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s an opportunity for them to shine
and share their talent with the
community AND an opportunity
for the community to learn about
books and authors right in their
back yard! The kick-off speaker at
10 a.m. is Marie Benedict, author
of the New York Times bestselling
The Only Woman in the Room. Local
food trucks Burgh Bites, South Side
BBQ Company, and Udderly Fresh will
be in the parking lot selling tasty
refreshments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
You won’t want to miss this event!
