WHAT’ S NEWS IN PETERS TOWNSHIP
ABBEY PLAYERS PRESENTS‘ THE MUSIC MAN, JR.’
St. Benedict the Abbot Church’ s Abbey Players theater troupe will present its spring show,“ The Music Man, Jr.” this June.
There’ s trouble in River City when a fasttalking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian! Based on Meredith Willson’ s six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy,“ The Music Man, Jr.” features some of musical theater’ s most iconic songs and a story filled with wit, warmth and good oldfashioned romance. It is family entertainment at its best— a bold, brassy show, great for all ages, that will have the whole town atwitter!
The show will feature students from Peters Township, Canon-Mac, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon and Lincoln Park Performing Arts schools, and will feature seniors Joe Belfiore as Professor Harold Hill, Laura Shope as Marion, Jonah Philipp and Ryan Bastyr as Barbershop Quartet members, Emily Koerbel as Alma and Johnny Traficante as Mayor Shinn. Senior Sarah Gotkiewicz assists with the production as a student choreographer.
Performances will take place in St. Benedict the Abbot’ s Pope Benedict Center on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3, at 7:30 p. m., and 2 p. m. matinee showings will be held on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4. Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds from the show’ s bake sale will benefit Relay For Life and proceeds from the gift basket raffle will benefit Crohn’ s & Colitis Foundation of America.
Abbey Players is a community theater troupe for kids in grades 7 through 12. For more information, contact Lorra Brannen at lorralee @ verizon. net.
PT MUSIC BOOSTERS SELLING SPECIAL KEEPSAKES
Want to own a bit of Peters Township history? The Peters Township Music Boosters are offering tote bags and pillows, made from the retired PTHS Mighty Indian Marching Band uniforms. The uniforms were purchased in 2002. Hundreds of PT alumni wore the uniforms and represented PT at countless football games, festivals and parades. Peters Township crowds, fans and students cheered performers in those uniforms for more than a decade, including trips to Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, Chicago, Washington, D. C., and Disney World. PT students wore the uniforms with great pride until 2015.
The uniforms are now being repurposed into wonderful birthday, graduation and celebration mementos offered to the public. Each pillow and tote is hand-created and an original design. Pillows are $ 50 and tote bags are $ 75. The hats with plumes are also available to purchase for $ 25.
They are wonderful Peters Township High School souvenirs for all students, past and present, and your purchase will help to support the current and future music students of Peters Township who carry on the tradition of excellence.
