Serious Issues From Seasonal Changes A fter winter weather finally breaks, we all enjoy the changes that accompany the warmer weather. It can be a time to be aware and be careful of some common illness and health problems that can accompany increased activity and outdoor exposure. Seasonal Allergies and Asthma– Both of these health challenges routinely flare up in spring with budding trees, rising pollen counts, temperature changes, fertilizing products and spring cleaning. For allergy, medications and injections can help, especially if they are utilized a few weeks in advance of exposure. So, plan accordingly. For asthma control, keep sufficient rescue inhalers on-hand and research best tips for reducing pollen and pollution exposure. Common Cold– Fall and spring are peak times for catching a cold. Rhinovirus spreads very easily from person to person, so remember basic precautions of hand washing and minimize touching your eyes, nose and mouth for you and your children. Headaches– With the clocks changing, the daytime lengthening and the weather being inconsistent, people experience increased headaches and migraines as their InComm Seasonal HORZ.indd 1 bodies adjust. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to turn on the air conditioning. Sinus Congestion– A stuffy nose, chest congestion and sore throat are common in spring. A person may experi- ence chills or sweats more frequently during the season change which can lead to respiratory health concerns. Sport Injuries– As spring sports begin to gear up, adults and children are often not as prepared as athletes who do winter and spring training. It is important to stretch and give yourself proper time to warm up for activities. When situations related to these health issues escalate and cause concern, it is important to connect with your primary care team for advice and any needed appointments and medications. Premier has Allergy, ENT and pain manage- ment specialists available if needed. Don’t neglect your health and jeopardize enjoying the warm weather.
