A Penn Hills artist is making a dent in the art world .
BY PAMELA PALONGUE his Penn Hills art studio , playfully dubbed “ The Coffey Shop ,” Sean Coffey is creating art on just about every surface you From can think of . But his passion is painting on metal , using steel as his canvas . This works out well , since he happens to be in the Steel City .
“ My steel pieces are unique . I began experimenting with it in 2008 ,” says Coffey .
His experimentation takes place at every phase of the process . He has formulated some solutions that create the wonderfully aged look that can range from rust to a turquoise patina . He prefers the natural aging process when possible , which can sometimes take years to get to the right stage to begin his work .
