Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame Inducts

2025 Class

The Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame proudly inducted its 2025 class on Thursday, October 2 at The Venue at Live! Casino in Greensburg, honoring a distinguished group of athletes, coaches, and contributors whose achievements have strengthened and celebrated Norwin’ s athletic tradition.
A major highlight of this year’ s class was the induction of the 1999 Norwin football team, which advanced to the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals under head coach Tim McCabe— who was also inducted individually. Coach McCabe guided the team through a memorable season marked by important wins over Penn Hills in the playoffs and defending WPIAL champion New Castle during the regular season. His decade of leadership included four playoff appearances and left a lasting imprint on the football program.
The Hall of Fame also welcomed Shelby Haitz, a standout middle-distance runner, who helped lead Norwin to four consecutive WPIAL track and field team championships and captured a WPIAL 800-meter title on her way to earning numerous district and state medals. She was joined by fellow track and field athlete Jason Jasko, a dominant jumper who remained undefeated in dual-meet high jump competition and also excelled as an all-section basketball player. The class further recognized Chris Mitchell, a former WPIAL champion swimmer known for his strength in the individual medley, and Sarah Morrison, the goalkeeper of the 1996 state championship girls’ soccer team who recorded 40 career shutouts— 19 in a single season— while starting 53 straight games.
Also inducted were Kurtis Phipps, Norwin’ s first PIAA wrestling champion and a standout collegiate wrestler at Bucknell University, along with longtime coach and athletic director Randy Rovesti, whose leadership influenced generations of Norwin athletes. The class additionally honored Jack Salopek, Norwin’ s all-time leading passer and a Westmoreland County record holder who went on to play at Western Michigan and Elon, and Kylie Veverka, a defensive leader on the girls’ soccer team whose contributions helped secure 46 shutouts during her career.

The 2025 inductees were honored at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet on October 2, and recognized during the Homecoming football game on October 3. orwin
