IN Norwin Winter 2019 | Page 5

Thank You for Fantastic Years It’s hard to believe it’s already been fifteen years since the Norwin Public Library moved from its roots in downtown Irwin to our new home on Caruthers Lane...also in Irwin! F ifteen years in, the results of that decision have exceeded everyone’s expectations. At the time, based on conversations with community members, focus groups, and surveys, we felt that the move would increase circulation, foot traffic, and make it easier for families from all over the Norwin area to access our books, videos, and music, programs, genealogical databases, and other services. Circulation has doubled. Daily visits have tripled as have the number of people attending our educational programs. Fifteen years ago, we hoped that the community spaces we could offer at our new location would provide a location for civic groups and small business to coordinate their activities. Today, local organizations ranging from Boy and Girl Scouts of America to the AARP utilize our spaces for meetings, planning sessions, student tutoring, and seminars on a daily basis. We continue to offer free computer and internet access on our twenty-six workstations as well as WiFi access to those who prefer to work on their own device. As of October 1st, over 20,000 computer hours have been logged by our patrons. This first fifteen years has been a good start, but we hope to be even better in the years ahead. If you haven’t been using the library lately, we hope you’ll stop by soon. You’ll be amazed at what we can do for you.
