FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS for 2019-2020 T he employees of the Norwin School District Facilities and Property Services Department have been hard at work to improve District buildings and grounds. Their goal, as always, has been to maintain safe, well-functioning, and aesthetically pleasing facilities for the School District’s 5,289 students and 500-plus employees. According to Facilities Department leadership, the following projects have been completed: ATHLETICS • Stadium turf installation. • Repair / resurfacing of the main campus tennis courts. • Recent pool-related updates. • Stadium track upgrades and softball field turf installation (these two projects were in progress and expected to be completed as this edition went to print). PARKING LOTS • Replacement/patching, crack filling, seal coating, and line painting. • Speed bumps installed in front of Knights Stadium, Stewartsville, Hahntown and Sunset Valley. • High School and Middle School parking lot traffic control safety improvements. • Administration walkway improvements. • Replacement of five catch-basins around the main campus. GENERAL • Upgrades to School District work vehicles. • Implementation of the Summer Elementary Team Cleaning and Knight Sweep programs, which are improving efficiency and customer service. • Use of goats for vegetation control/management on the stadium hillside. • Centralization of the recycling dumpsters at Norwin Middle School. • Replacement of tile floors at Hillcrest Intermediate School.
