Burgher
Burger and
dŌ Wood-Fired
Downtown Irwin’s
Best Kept Secret
E
ver since he was 15 years old, Dave
Caruso has been in the restaurant
business, learning every nook and
cranny of the business from busing tables
to general management. So with partners
Chris Martin and Jon Painter, he decided on
opening two restaurants, dŌ, a wood-fired
pizza place, and Burgher Burger, a casual
hamburger joint to put some new sizzle to
an old favorite.
While they have vastly different menus,
Caruso said the restaurants have a lot
in common when it comes to how they
operate.
“We use all the best ingredients. We
never skimp or use the cheap stuff,” he said.
“And our staff does a great job. dŌ’s been
voted one of the top 10 pizza places in
Pennsylvania on Yelp, with Burgher Burger
gaining popularity since we opened six
months ago. Customers tell us our food is
the best they’ve ever had.”
At dŌ, you’ll find a wood-fired pizza
that you can create yourself from over
20 toppings ranging from jalapenos to
pineapple, or choose one of the eight
customer favorites like the 1972 - named
after the best year in football, according
to Caruso - a combination of andouille
sausage, mushroom and red onion, or the
Billie Jean - a mix of ricotta, mozzarella
and garlic sauce. At dŌ, toppings are
never extra, so if you want a pizza with
everything, you’ll never pay more to
indulge yourself. They also have several
wood-fired sandwiches - or “dŌwiches” -
made with homemade pizza dough buns,
as well as salads to choose from. For those
with food allergies, dŌ has a gluten-free
pizza available.
Burgher Burger describes itself as a
haven for food junkies, where every steak
burger is pressed daily and served with
fresh-cut fries. The menu is a rich history of
Caruso’s life, with recreations of some of his
favorite dishes.
“Every item on the menu is something
that I’ve twisted into my own vision of
how it should be and customers love it,”
Caruso said.
Some perennial favorites include the
Caruso Burger - fresh mozzarella, Balsamic
tomatoes, Balsamic glaze, lettuce, tomato
and pesto mayo, the namesake Burgher
Burger- sauteed onions, American cheese,
lettuce, tomato and BurgherB Sauce,
and the Dragon Burger - grilled jalapeno,
bacon, ghost pepper cheese, fire mayo,
lettuce and tomato.
They also have a veggie burger and
portabella mushroom burger for those
who don’t do meat. With a hearty sandwich
selection, bountiful appetizer menu
and a kid’s menu, Burgher Burger offers
something for the whole family whether
you’re eating in or ordering takeout.
