Cancer care is more than medical treatment. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Independence Health System supports patients with access to many services that can help them manage all aspects of care. Some of our supportive services include clinical trial screening and enrollment, nutritional support, plus support groups for patients and caregivers.
“ Cancer care can be complicated and often requires multiple specialists to collaborate in order to get patients the best treatment and outcomes possible,” says Jason Bierenbaum, MD, a medical oncologist and hematologist, who sees patients in North Huntingdon.“ At UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Independence Health System, we work as part of a multidisciplinary team in which medical oncologists partner with radiation and surgical oncologists.”
Dr. Bierenbaum adds that the team is in frequent contact with each other and holds regular meetings where they review patient information and provide individualized treatment plans that incorporate the opinions and advice of multiple doctors across different cancer treatment specialties.
