N
orwin School District graduated 407 students
at a ceremony held Friday, May 26, 2017 at
Norwin Knights Stadium.
The graduating seniors are clearly focused on the
future and they are truly the leaders of tomorrow.
Of the members in the Class of 2017, approximately
63 percent will be attending a four-year college; 19
percent a two-year community college, business,
trade, or technical school; 5 percent will be enlisting
in the armed services; 6 percent will directly enter
the world of work; and 7 percent are undecided,
but they are determined to follow a productive and
contributing pathway for future success.
At commencement, the valedictorian and
salutatorian, along with all honor graduates, were
recognized. National Honor Society members were
also visible as they wore honor cords representing
the service hours they completed during their high
school careers.
Scores of graduating seniors earned scholarships
for their academic or athletic excellence. These
honors, as well as the list of all graduates, are
published in the Class of 2017 Commencement
Program, which is available for viewing on the Norwin
School District Web site at www.norwinsd.org under
“headlines.”
Also, Vespers was held Wednesday, May 24, 2017
in the high school auditorium. During this time
of reflection, several seniors shared inspirational
messages and readings about graduation and the
future. Vespers speakers included Marina Novotnak,
Mark Downey, Matthew Bushik, Rose Egan,
Margarette Birus, Gabriel Graham, and Kayla Williams.
Musical selections were provided by the Vespers
Choir.
At Commencement, friends and family of the
graduates also heard the Commencement speakers
give their final farewells to Norwin High School.
The seniors speaking at Commencement were
Zane Varner, Maria Tomas, David Spehar III, Isabella
Buffalini, Margaret Straub, Hunter Stecko, and
Elizabeth Straub. These commencement speakers
were chosen for their eloquence, facial expression,
articulation, posture, vocal variety, and eye contact
throughout an audition process.
The senior class advisors are teachers Lori
Anselmino and Peggy Bryan.
