Beverly’s Birthdays
Partner Up to support
homeless children
To be sure no child’s birthday is ever
forgotten, North Huntingdon based Beverly’s
Birthdays has created birthday party cheer for
the Pittsburgh region’s children experiencing
homelessness and families in need since
2012. Thanks to a newly forged relationship
with Pittsburgh’s local Moe’s franchise group,
parties in 2016 also feature fresh, handcrafted
southwestern fare coupled with the signature
“Welcome to Moe’s” fun that the burrito joint
is known for, at no cost to the rapidly growing
non-profit.
With seven locations in the Pittsburgh
region, and having grown to one of the area’s
largest caterers, local Moe’s franchisees Mike
Geiger and John Iaquinta realized they were
in a unique position to join the Beverly’s
Birthdays mission and elevate awareness of
the non-profit organization. The partnership’s
hallmark will feature a “Buy One, Give One”
birthday party catering program. Every
time a Pittsburgh-area family uses Moe’s to
cater their own child’s birthday party, their
purchase will directly contribute to catering a
Beverly’s Birthdays party at no cost.
The two organizations expect to feed and
party with over 5,000 people at events in
2016, spread over 20+ shelters and agencies
in the Pittsburgh region. “We hope this is
just the beginning of a long-term relationship
that will eventually touch the lives of many
children,” says both Geiger and Yunn – with
two very big smiles!

in any of the 32 events. Westmoreland
County residency was not required to
participate in the events. All pre-registered
participants received a Senior Games T-shirt
and a free picnic lunch was provided for
athletes at Mammoth Park on Thursday, May
5 and Monday, May 9.
A few of the events like high and low impact
activities including bocce, bowling, canoeing,
cycling, darts, golf, horseshoes, running,
shuffleboard and swimming. Many of the
events divided athletes into age brackets: 5059, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89 and 90 plus. Medals
were awarded to the top three finishers in each
event and age bracket. An Awards Ceremony
took place on Friday, May 13, honoring this
year’s sportsmen and women.
For over 30 years, the motto of the
Westmoreland County Senior Games has
been to “Bring a Friend for Fun and Fitness.”
The Games are more about fun and fitness
than serious competition, and one does not
have to be a super athlete to participate. Most
of the participants come for the camaraderie
of the games and enjoy competing with
friends and meeting new people. The ultimate
goal of the games is to encourage an active
lifestyle and continued participation in
recreational activities beyond age 50.
The Westmoreland County Senior
Games were sponsored by UPMC For You
Advantage, Harmony Home Care, The Joint
Medical Group, PC, Greensburg Care Center,
Harmon House / Amber House, Homewell
Senior Care, The Nutrition Group, Senior
Helpers, SeniorLife, Miracle Ear Greensburg
