The 56 recipients of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
A
t a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. in
April, Norwin School District Superintendent
Dr. William Kerr received the Federal Bureau
of Investigation (FBI) Director’s Community
Leadership Award for the Pittsburgh region.
Dr. Kerr was one of 56 people nationwide
to receive the award from FBI Director James
B. Comey, who recognized awardees for their
extraordinary contributions to education and to
the prevention of crime and violence within their
communities.
These 56 leaders were selected by their local FBI
field office. The Director’s Community Leadership
Award was formally created in 1990 as a way to
honor individuals and organizations for their

efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and
violence in America.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this
prestigious award from the FBI,” Dr. Kerr said.
“I accept this award on behalf of the students,
parents, and staff of the Norwin School District
and greater Norwin community; and, I also
acknowledge my colleagues and friends in
Southwestern Pennsylvania for their dedication
and commitment to improve educational
programs and services for all students.”
In receiving this honor, the FBI cited Dr. Kerr’s
work in spearheading two major initiatives:
(1) Serving as chairman of the education
sub-committee of the FBI’s Heroin Outreach
