NEW YEAR’ S BABY
Rachel and Tyler Solis of Irwin welcomed baby Marina Solis, the first baby born in 2026 at Allegheny Health Network’ s Forbes Hospital, at 12:19 a. m. on Jan. 1. Marina weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 20 inches long.
In celebration of the first baby born in the new year, the family received a year’ s supply of diapers from the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank.
AHN OPENS SECOND UPDATED CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LAB AT FORBES HOSPITAL
Allegheny Health Network( AHN) has opened a newly renovated second cardiac catheterization lab at Forbes Hospital, expanding access to advanced heart care for patients in the eastern area. The state-of-the-art lab features advanced imaging technology designed to support more complex procedures and faster treatment during cardiac emergencies.
The addition increases the hospital’ s capacity to treat the growing number of cardiac patients and strengthens its role as a regional destination for high-level cardiovascular care.
KEYNOTES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION 2026
Keynotes is still accepting applications for its 2026 music scholarship competition, set for May 9 at the Fine Arts Theater of Mt. Lebanon High School in the South Hills. More than $ 16,000 in cash awards will be available for outstanding young musicians.
Eligible applicants include instrumentalists under age 26( as of June 1, 2025) and vocalists under age 30. Students must be full-time music majors at a college, university, or music school— or graduating high school seniors who have been accepted into a full-time music major program.
Applicants must also be legal Pennsylvania residents for at least one year, or out-of-state students who attend school in Pennsylvania and can provide proof of a Pennsylvania address( such as a campus address, university mailing, or utility bill).

CARNEGIE MUSEUMS TO OFFER SUMMER CAMPS
Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History announced the return of their summer camps, offering a variety of weeklong programs for children and teens starting in June.
Camps run June 8 through Aug. 21, Monday through Friday, with full-day options for ages 6 – 13, half-day camps for ages 4 – 5, and specialized teen programs for grades 9 – 12 through the Youth Art Studio.

GIRL SCOUTS WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA CEO TO RETIRE
Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania Chief Executive Officer Patricia A. Burkart has announced her retirement, effective this June.
Burkart was named CEO in 2007, when the council was formed through a merger of five western Pennsylvania councils— including Keystone Tall Trees, where she previously served as CEO.
Burkart has been a dedicated and passionate leader in the Girl Scout movement for 23 years. Prior to her executive roles, she served in a variety of capacities in social services supporting individuals with special needs.
“ I am grateful for Pat’ s leadership and her commitment to the Girl Scout mission,” said Nicole King Yohe, chair of the board of directors.
“ Her impact isn’ t measured in years, but in the tens of thousands of girls who experienced the amazing benefits of Girl Scouting during her tenure. Girls were her top priority in every strategy and decision.” n
