NORWIN SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
Norwin High School’ s Model United Nations( MUN) team had a successful year at competitions across the region. In February, 23 delegates traveled to American University for AMERIMUNC XII, one of the nation’ s top MUN conferences, hosting 1,200 students from 45 U. S. schools and two international schools. Students honed diplomacy and debate skills in committees like UNCTAD, UNESCO, and the Paris Peace Conference.
Norwin dominated the event, with five students earning awards: Sophia Tokay, Aiden Colauita, and Finnian Cunning received honorable mentions; Joe Cramer earned Outstanding Delegate; and Carter Kunicky won Best Delegate.“ All the students did a fantastic job representing the professionalism expected at such a prestigious conference,” said advisor Larissa Sturm.
Earlier, in November, a smaller team attended the University of Virginia MUN conference. Aiden Perry earned Outstanding Delegate, Aiden Colaiuta won Honorable Mention, and Roman Ola took Best Delegate. Students also competed in high-paced Crisis Committees, navigating fast-changing scenarios with skill and creativity. Ola even survived multiple assassination attempts while controlling an army by the end of his committee.
Students emphasized the importance of commitment to character, persuasive speaking, and strategic thinking.“ Mrs. Sturm makes these experiences both educational and incredibly fun,” said Colaiuta, noting her careful planning and coordination.
Through these conferences, Norwin MUN students not only bring home awards but also gain valuable skills in diplomacy, debate, and leadership.

Young Knights

Earlier this year, Norwin’ s four elementary schools hosted the second session of the Young Knights preschool transition program for children entering kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year. Over 150 families attended their home school to gain valuable insight and information related to kindergarten readiness skills. During the session, students focused on concepts of print, building independence, and fine motor development.
The Young Knights program helps children prepare for a smooth transition into kindergarten by providing hands-on learning experiences and resources for families to continue skillbuilding at home.
The final session of the 2025-2026 school year will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Registration is required for each session. Norwin Celebrates Inclusion on International Spread the Word Day
On Wednesday, March 4, the Norwin School District joined schools and communities worldwide in observing International Spread the Word Day, a day dedicated to promoting inclusion, respect, and meaningful connections for all individuals. This year’ s theme encourages everyone to take action in building a culture where every person belongs.
As a Unified Champion School District, Norwin proudly models these values through student leadership, whole-school engagement, and inclusive sports and activities. Each member of our community plays an essential role in fostering an environment where all students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.
This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act( IDEA), a landmark law ensuring that students with disabilities have the right to a free and appropriate education. Pennsylvania played a pivotal role in shaping this legislation through the 1972 PARC Consent Decree, which affirmed the right of children with intellectual disabilities to attend public school. This historic decision laid the groundwork for national policy and continues to guide the inclusive practices we champion today.
As we honor Spread the Word Day and this milestone in special education history, Norwin reaffirms its commitment to celebrating diversity, dignity, and equitable opportunities for every student.
