Singing , dancing , community service … The Norwin Show Choir does it all . With their upcoming national competition in Nashville , the school year has brought excitement to the Norwin Show Choir . Earlier this spring the group hosted the bi-annual Performing Arts Day , providing an opportunity for young members of the community to step into the spotlight and bring out their inner performer . Students from preK to 8th grade arrived on the morning of February 24th to learn a song , dance and create a mini art project to showcase to friends and family .
“ My favorite part of PAD is seeing the joy on the kids ’ faces when they nail their performance in front of their parents . They always get so excited and are encouraged to continue their passion for the musical arts ” says Adyn Brown , a senior member of the show choir .
The students were split into age divisions based on age / grade , and each group had a unique performance experience . At the end of the student showcase , the Show Choir performed “ You Can ’ t Stop the Beat ” from Hairspray and “ Come Alive ” from the Greatest Showman .
In addition to Performing Arts Day , the Norwin Show Choir recently completed “ Sparkle Season ,” where the students traveled through the community during the winter holiday season , dancing , singing , and spreading joy at nursing homes , community centers , and schools . Junior Izzy Anders has been performing with the Show Choir for 2 years now , and her favorite part is the Sparkle Season .
“ When I hear people ’ s response to our winter show they absolutely love the show choir . With show choir we try our hardest to interact with the audience and make connections as much as possible which is what I think makes the audience enjoy it the most .”
All of the proceeds from Performing Arts Day and donations from Sparkle Season go to the Expressions in Harmony Foundation to be distributed to two charities : HEARTH ( Homelessness Ends with Advocacy , Resources , Training and Housing ), a shelter for homeless women and their children and Norwin in Action , created by the Show Choir in 2022 with the intent to help support Norwin students in need .

BUSPATROL SAFETY PROGRAM
THIS FALL NORWIN SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL LAUNCH SAFETY PROGRAM TO PROTECT STUDENTS AT BUS STOPS
Norwin School District has partnered with local law enforcement and BusPatrol to tackle the illegal passing of stopped school buses .
As part of the safety initiative , this fall the entire fleet of Norwin buses will be outfitted with automated enforcement technology to detect the license plates of vehicles that fail to stop for school buses , putting children at risk . The video evidence is shared with local law enforcement for review before a citation is issued .
Last October , Pennsylvania authorities reported more than 250 stop-arm violations in one day during Operation Safe Stop . In 2020 , Allentown School District captured over 200 illegal passings on just two school buses over a 47-day stop-arm study . This is equal to 2.18 violations per bus per day .
Kate Spree , a spokesperson for BusPatrol , said that the safety initiative is proven to make roads safer : “ Every day , thousands of cars ignore school bus stop-arms and speed past school buses as children are stepping on and off . Sadly , this dangerous motorist behavior is only getting worse . Our safety programs combine education and enforcement to change driver behavior and ensure that all motorists know when to stop for the big yellow bus . In some communities , our programs have reduced the rate of illegal passing by up to 30 % year over year .”
In addition to stop-arm cameras , Norwin will equip its buses with safety features at no cost to the district or taxpayers . The technology , installation , and maintenance are funded by violation revenue over a 5-year term . As stated by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation , motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses with red lights flashing and stop-arm extended . The penalty for a first-time violation is $ 300 .
