WHAT’S NEWS IN NORWIN 8TH ANNUAL CUBCAKE WARS The Norwin Lions will be holding the 8th Annual Cubcake Wars fundraising event on Sunday, March 29, in the Norwin High School cafeteria from 1 to 4 p.m. This event features numerous bakers who have made delicious cupcakes (or “cubcakes” as a play on words for lion cub) to be sold. The bakers are in a competition for best-tasting cubcake, best decorations, most funds raised, and people’s choice for best in show. All funds benefit Norwin Lions and the Kitty Sack Project. The Kitty Sack Project is in its eighth year of feeding children in need over the weekends. Unfortunately, when many children in our community leave school on Friday, their last healthy meal was their school lunch. From then until Monday when they return to school, they may have had little to eat over the weekend. The Norwin Lions Club is actively working to help these children by providing backpacks (Kitty Sacks) filled with kid-friendly, healthy food for the weekend. The club has partnered with a local grocery store to provide fresh fruit, cereal, crackers, and meals that children can prepare themselves without using the stove. These foods will help sustain the children over the weekends during the school year. The Lions deliver the Kitty Sacks on Friday morning to the various schools. 6 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE ❘ icmags.com Presently those are three elementary schools and the intermediate school in the Norwin School District, currently feeding 40-50 children weekly. It takes almost $400 to provide food for one child for a school year. That amounts to around $20,000 total for the year. You can support this program by attending the fun Cubcake Wars event. It is open to everyone of all ages and is very family friendly. Bakers may still be needed. For information, email norwinlions@comcast. net or visit facebook.com/NorwinLions.
