Norwin High School has once again been recognized as a Special Olympics Pennsylvania ( SOPA ) Unified Champion School for its commitment to providing inclusive sports and activities for students with and without intellectual disabilities .
Norwin High School is one of 24 schools in Pennsylvania to receive this national honor . Norwin has had a Unified Track and Field Team since 2016 and added a Unified Bocce Team in 2019 . In addition , Norwin has had an inclusive , Peer Buddy Mentor Club ( PBMC ), since 2013 . Members of Unified Sports and PBMC have hosted and participated in many inclusive events and fundraisers over the years , including raising thousands of dollars for SOPA by participating in the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge , hosting the Westmoreland County Special Olympics , and conducting various inclusive service projects throughout the community .

and education leaders . Since 2017 , over 500 schools have achieved this honor by excelling in Unified Sports , Inclusive Youth Leadership , and Whole-School Engagement , while demonstrating sustainability or plans to sustain these efforts .
“ Unified Sports means bringing people together regardless of their physical abilities , it ’ s about making friendships with people you would have never expected ,” said Norwin junior and Unified Partner , Alivya Mayo . “ It ’ s an amazing thing that I ’ m so lucky to be a part of . It is so awesome that our program , that we care so much about , is being recognized in this way !”
More than 200 schools are currently participating in Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools programming in Pennsylvania , as well as over 5,000 schools across the country .

Michael Choby , High School Principal . “ This rare recognition reflects the dedication and teamwork of our staff , students , and families in promoting inclusion and acceptance through sports . K-12 STUDENT HOLIDAY CARD ART CONTEST
The Norwin School District is again sponsoring a holiday card art contest open to any K-12 student .
One student ’ s artwork will be selected to be featured on this year ’ s district holiday card , which will be sent to every Norwin employee and many community partners .
Artwork , including drawings , digital art , and photography must be original and nondenominational with an aspect ratio of 5:7 or 7:5 . Digital artwork must have an image resolution of 768x1024 pixels or 1024x768 pixels or greater .
Students may submit their artwork through their art or homeroom teacher . Please include the student ’ s name , school , grade , and teacher ’ s name .
The District is accepting digital submissions of non-digital artwork such as drawings or paintings . Using the Google Form below please submit a photo of the artwork , making sure that the photo is not blurry and the entire work is within the frame . To ensure a quality photo , please turn off your camera ’ s flash and avoid bright lights behind the camera so there is no shadow on your work . Please submit the original file size in the highest resolution possible .

ANNUAL NOTICES
Norwin School District publishes its Annual Notices on the School District website at norwinsd . org under the “ Parents and Community ” tab . Additionally , each August Norwin School District publishes annual public notices of special education services and programs , services for gifted students , and services for protected handicapped students in the Tribune-Review , Valley News Dispatch , Penn-Trafford Star , Norwin Star , Murrysville Star , and Lower Burrell Pennysaver . The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit coordinates this listing and publication on behalf of its member school districts .
