MCCANDLESS COMMUNITY DAY
The 19th annual Town of McCandless Community Day was held on Saturday,
September 14 from noon to 9 p.m.
As always, it began with a parade and ended with fireworks. In between, the
grounds at Town Hall were filled with rides, children’s activities, vendors and food.
The headlining act was local singer Chris Jamison of TV’s “The Voice.” A variety
of free kids happenings, included activities by Lowes and Northland Public Library,
face painting from 3 to 5 p.m., balloon art from 4 to 6 p.m., caricature art by Jim
Kanfoush from 2 to 5 p.m. and the famous Junior Firefighter Combat Challenge
from 2 to 8 p.m.
Several events took place at the McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage
Center in memory of Joe Bullick (local historian, coach and Community
Day committee member who passed away in May. His friend, Harry Price, offered
pottery demonstrations from 1:30 to 3 p.m. A ceremony for Bullick took place at
3 p.m., which was followed by a performance of Irish music.
The Frank J. Farina Memorial Car Cruise took place from 2 to 6 p.m. at the former
Trader Horn site on Blazier Drive.
