The Wanderer’s Love Poem CHRISTIAN PARREAGUIRRE N OR TH AL L E GHE NY SC HO O L DI S TRI C T NE WS or th Allegheny CHRISTY MCDERMOTT I roam the streets with splendor and passion, Whether by the hiccup and jump of the bus, By the smooth soaring of the plane, By the stops and goes of the car, By the rattle of the train, By the twists and turns and ups and downs of the bike, My soul finds its way to a new city, new state, new way of life, Like a message in a bottle, my story and I float with ease from place to place, Drifting with the tides of my heart while calling any roof over my head home And never tiring of the trips I take, For I hear the clear call of the world around me, Her melodious songs and gentle harmonies sing my name, Asking that I break away and step outside, Asking that I trek on and explore, Because the wonders of the world cannot be found, Unless I wander and look around. 54 North Allegheny Nature in Me I am a fish deep in the rolling sea and an eagle soaring in the incessant sky, And nature’s strong presence surrounds me-Sparkling in my eyes and coursing through my veins. I roar with the power of spring rains and scream with the freedom of an eagle’s yawp. I live in nature as nature lives in me, eternally, forever free. Owls persistently perched, moles tunneling silhouettes across the landscape. I take heed of them all, each with a voice of its own, Wolves howling from the wood, snakes slithering from the desert, Each to their own as their own is to each other, Independent and free without fear of the unknown. The mad and abstract colors of my soul reflect in a summer sunset, wild yet beautiful, smearing the sky with uncontainable happiness. Vibrant colors of wild macaws--lapis, ruby, and sunshine, that linger high in the rainforest canopy, azure seas and emerald lagoons, all part of nature’s colors. All parts of nature, all parts of me.
