ommuting from his home in the Greensburg area to his office at
North Allegheny (NA) Senior High School in Wexford for 17 years,
and then to Washington, PA to work for the Washington Wild
Things for more than a decade, has been no big deal for Bob Bozzuto.
“I am very fortunate I only need a couple of hours of sleep,” laughs
Bozzuto, NA School District’s athletic director and Washington Wild
Things’ new Administrative Vice President. “Some people joke about my
replying to emails at 1 a.m. The commute is not tiresome because I don’t
see it as work—just a way of life.”
An educator for more than 37 years, Bozzuto worked at Hempfield Area
and Franklin Regional high schools before taking over at NA in 1999.
“To be able to do something I truly love is great, but it’s not about me,”
says Bozzuto. “It’s about we and us. I really believe the staff we have is just
great. To do something you really want to do and to be recognized for it
isn’t necessarily something I wanted, but when people do respect what
you’ve done—I think that’s a great accomplishment.”
Recently, Bozzuto was the recipient of the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Directors Association (PSADA) Robert Buckanavage Citation in
recognition of the exceptional time, effort and energy he has devoted
to his position at NA. Other PSADA honors he’s received include the
Athletic Director of the Year, Distinguished Coaching Educator and the
Distinguished Service Award.
