NASD Students Receive Honors Following the AATG National German Exam
In January , students from North Allegheny who are studying German participated in the AATG National German Exam . The level 4 exam is for seniors , while juniors participate in the level 3 exam . Senior students who achieve gold medal status become eligible to apply for a college scholarship . Juniors who earn gold have the opportunity to apply for a complimentary summer study abroad trip to Germany .
Over 13,000 students participated in the Levels 2-4 program this year . The National German Exam , now in its 64th year , rewards students through an extensive prize program and provides a means of comparing students in all regions of the US . Angelika Becker , German Teacher at Carmel High School , Carmel , Indiana and AATG President said , “ The AATG congratulates these excellent students and their outstanding performance . The results reflect not only the hard work of the individual students , but also the dedication of their teachers , the support of their families , and the school districts . The North Allegheny School District AFJROTC finished third at the JROTC Regional 3 PAR Tournament in Camp Perry , OH .
The competition included teams from North Carolina , Missouri , Illinois , Kentucky , Ohio , and Pennsylvania .
Two teams , coached by Mr . Tom Walk , competed on behalf of North Allegheny School District . Members of NASD Team 1 that captured third place included : Kylie Walk , Senior , Captain Alexander Hartman , Sophomore , Asst . Captain Kylie Beggs , Freshman Grant Corll , Sophomore NASD Team 2 finished the day in fifth place by one point .
Members of NASD Team 2 included : Jacob Collins , Senior , Phoenix Core , Junior , Spencer Vincent , Sophomore , Harrison McMorrow , Sophomore , Elizabeth Franklin , Sophomore , Grayce Whitlatch , Freshman
The team will learn in the upcoming weeks if its score qualified for the National competition in late March .

A Standing Ovation For the Woffington Family !
Thank you to John and Judy Woffington for donating $ 20,000 to support the theater program at North Allegheny School District .
Mr . Woffington is a former English teacher , play director , and tennis coach at North Allegheny School District . During his tenure , Mr . Woffington directed 38 plays . Mrs . Woffington taught French at North Allegheny .
Mr . Bob Tozier , NASD Music Department Chair , is collaborating with the Woffington family to implement the donation and plan to share details this spring .
Bradford Woods 75th Anniversary T-Shirt Contest
Designing history ! Bradford Woods Elementary students participated in a schoolwide t-shirt design contest to celebrate the District ’ s 75th anniversary . Staff narrowed down the entries to the top 20 and students voted for a winner that will be announced in January . The top four finalists are ( from left to right ): Pars Kara ( 4th ), James Wander ( 5th ), Grace Wu ( 5th ), and Lily Munroe ( 5th ).
Making headlines ! Six North Allegheny Students qualified for the Pennsylvania School Press Association Student Journalism Contest
Six North Allegheny students qualified as finalists in the Pennsylvania School Press Association Student Journalism Contest . In October , NASD students competed locally at Point Park University to qualify . More than 700 students across the state competed in similar contests at local universities to qualify . Students earning a first place finish or earned a qualifying score at their local university moved to the finalists round . All finalists are invited to compete in the state level competition at Penn State University on April 3rd .
