The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic family celebrated Catholic Schools Week January 29 thru February 5 . All students , faculty and staff , families , alumni , and friends were welcomed to participate in the celebration and blessing of being a Catholic school . This annual week-long celebration featured different events that highlighted the unique nature and organization of Catholic schools , thanking all members for their contribution to making the entire school a success . This year ’ s theme was Gratitude , in which all students experienced different ways in which they see the opportunity they have to receive an outstanding education , which inspires them to give back to others . Some of our students who volunteer in various ways showcased their service projects to the whole student body . Other students who attended last year ’ s mission trip to Jamaica gave witness to the student body about their experience and how it showed them how blessed they are to have the opportunities they have each and every day . These students demonstrated how their Catholic schooling and strong faith foundation take hold for them in doing God ’ s mission work . The students also watched a documentary on what some children have to do just to go to school , which sometimes can be overlooked in our transportation-savvy society . Many of today ’ s students take for granted the opportunity to attend school with considerable ease , so this film struck a cord for those students who have not yet considered how difficult it is for other students around the world to attend school . Additionally , the students took up daily collections to continue its current sponsorship of two children and one elderly person in third world countries . This is the third year that the school community has participated in this fundraiser . This collection illustrates how even the smallest sacrifices can make a big difference in the lives of others . The school community hopes to continue expanding the number of sponsorships that it can provide
for those less fortunate . Students have selected a few students from impoverished countries without the same opportunities that CWNC students enjoy . Senior Jonathan Dunham said of the program , “ Unbound provides real people with unfortunate circumstances an opportunity to rise above their current status . Knowing that we support people like Griselda , who is a promising fourteen year girl , we have set up a hopeful future for her and her family . Even with a small amount of change in your pocket , you can really make a difference in someone ’ s life .” The school also announced its Spring Mission Trip into rural West Virginia , showcasing that CWNC ’ s mission program serves both foreign and domestic entities . All members of the school family are called to serve the poorest of the poor where ever the need presents itself . The school family of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic wished all Catholic school families , benefactors , and friends a blessed week and Christ-filled celebration .
