WHAT’S NEWS IN NORTH ALLEGHENY TREASURE HOUSE FASHIONS TO HOST PURSE BASH FUNDRAISER Treasure House Fashions is a nonprofit women’s resale shop on McKnight Road that partners with over 65 agencies in the city to provide clothing and resources to women in need. Its biggest fundraising event of the year, The Purse Bash, will be held Sept. 27 at The Chadwick in Wexford. Early-bird tickets are $35, and are available online at thfashions.org, or visit the store located at 7607 McKnight Road. Invite all your girlfriends for a fun night out with a chance to win a designer bag, over 100 bags being raffled off, food, drinks and prizes, all while helping your community! Following the business meeting and a brief time to enjoy refreshments and fellowship, Penn State Master Gardener Bill Goff will present “Perennials–Three Seasons of Color in the Garden.” Guests are requested to come at 10:30 a.m. for refreshments and the program. The club will also hold a Garage Sale at the church on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from this sale help support the Greybrook Garden Club’s annual donations to conservancy groups and worthy community and charitable organizations. STEPHEN MINISTRY WORKSHOP On Saturday, Sept. 29, St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church (2230 Rochester Road, 15237) will host a Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. This workshop is designed to help congregations learn about starting a caring ministry by equipping laypeople as caregivers to help others journey during difficult times of their lives. The chipped 5k loops around the scenic Three Rivers Heritage Trail with the start and finish line in the South Shore Riverfront Park in the heart of the South Side Works. A family-friendly 1-mile fun walk along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is also available. The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Strollers are welcome! This event offers prizes for overall and age-level winners, a spirited costume contest and post-race family fun, including pumpkin painting, Halloween crafts, photo booth, food and drinks, raffles and more! ONE-OF-A-KIND CAR DONATION PROGRAM Community Auto, a program of The Lighthouse Foundation, is a nonprofit, low-income car ownership program that accepts donated cars, repairs and inspects them when feasible, and sells them at discounted prices to low-income working families and individuals. This is the only organization of its kind in western Pennsylvania. The used car in your garage that you don’t have time to sell or didn’t get the trade-in value you wanted or a car the kids used but no longer need would be perfect to donate.
