Dr. Robert J. Scherrer Named Next Superintendent of the North Allegheny School District
The North Allegheny School District( NASD) has selected Dr. Robert J. Scherrer as its next superintendent.
“ North Allegheny has a strong tradition of excellence in academics, arts, athletics and extra‐curricular activities,” says Dr. Scherrer.“ I am honored and humbled to continue the work at North Allegheny. This is a very special place because of our students, families, educators and the entire school community.”
Dr. Scherrer has served NASD in a variety of capacities since 2013, including acting / substitute superintendent and assistant superintendent of K-12 education. He began his career as a secondary educator teaching entrepreneurship, accounting and computer applications at Baldwin High School in 1996. Dr. Scherrer has expansive administrative experience at various grade levels, serving as assistant principal, principal and co-principal for curriculum and instruction at various schools throughout the region.
“ Dr. Scherrer is an excellent fit for the North Allegheny School District,” says Tara Fisher, NASD Board president.“ He possesses the skills, drive and vision the Board was looking for in our next leader. Dr. Scherrer is committed to moving the District forward, and we are excited for him to get started in his new, permanent role.” Dr. Scherrer earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Business from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He received his Doctorate in Administrative and Policy Studies in 2009 from the University of Pittsburgh.
“ Education is all about building relationships and helping students find success academically, socially and emotionally,” says Dr. Scherrer.“ I find great joy in helping others create healthy and rigorous learning environments that support students.”
Dr. Scherrer was selected from a nationwide pool of highly qualified candidates. In January, the Board of School Directors contracted the Chester County Intermediate Unit( CCIU) to work in conjunction with the Board throughout the search process. The CCIU solicited the input of school district staff, parents, students and the community at large during 11 focus groups. From the focus groups, the CCIU and the Board developed a candidate profile and an array of interview questions that centered on the needs and challenges facing NASD over the next five years.

NA Board Appoints Assistant Superintendent for K-12 Education
On Wednesday, May 25, the North Allegheny School District Board of School Directors voted to approve David Christopher to the position of assistant superintendent for K-12 education.
Christopher began his teaching career in 1996 as a teacher in the Huntingdon Area School District. In 2008, he became an elementary principal in the Juniata Valley School District. In the next year, he was promoted to senior high principal and K-12 director of curriculum of the Juniata Valley School District. In 2011, he was appointed to acting superintendent while continuing to maintain his role as the senior high principal. Christopher was appointed as the superintendent of schools for the Juniata Valley School District in 2012.
As superintendent, Christopher has successfully facilitated the creation of a shared District vision for achieving high student performance using professional development, strategic planning, curriculum development and budgeting.
Christopher’ s accomplishments also include being selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a workgroup member for Data, Educator Evaluation and the ESSA authorization plan. He has successfully upgraded his current District’ s technology infrastructure to support moving to a 1:1 technology program and has served on various county-wide executive boards. In addition, Christopher served as a member of the District’ s negotiating team for collective bargaining agreements and found creative ways to positively impact the District budget.
Christopher graduated from Juniata College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. He completed coursework in Instructional Systems from Penn State University and has a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from Shippensburg University. Christopher is currently completing his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Public Policy from Shippensburg University, where he also obtained his Principal’ s Certificate and Superintendent’ s Letter of Eligibility.
