PCC’ S SUSAN MEDLEY HONORED WITH 2025 BRAVERY IN ACTION PILLAR AWARD
Pittsburgh Concert Chorale( PCC) Music Director Dr. Susan Medley has been recognized for her exceptional leadership and lasting impact on the region’ s cultural and educational landscape with the 2025 Bravery in Action Pillar Award at the Brave Women Project Awards Luncheon.
The third annual event welcomed more than 300 attendees and celebrated women who lead, give and inspire throughout the region.
Dr. Medley was honored for her work as an educator, advocate, and artistic leader, particularly her role in organizing the Carol and Robert Woody Choral Commissioning Fund, which supports the creation of new choral works. The Brave Women Project also highlighted her extensive outreach to students and singers of all ages, as well as her longstanding commitment to service and music education.
In recognizing her achievements, the organization praised Medley as“ a builder of futures” whose creativity, generosity and courage have helped ensure that music— and access to learning— remain available to all.
Under her baton, the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale has continued to thrive as one of the region’ s premier choral ensembles, offering performances that combine artistic excellence with community connection. Audiences will have several opportunities to experience PCC’ s work during its 2025 – 26 concert season.
The season opened Dec. 5 with“ Sounds of the Season,” a beloved holiday tradition featuring timeless classics, traditional carols and popular favorites designed for audiences of all ages.
In March, PCC’ s Classics series will present Sergei Rachmaninoff’ s“ All- Night Vigil,” widely regarded as one of the greatest a cappella choral works ever written, showcasing lush harmonies and profound musical depth.
The season concludes in May with the upbeat“ Music of the’ 90s,” a high-energy Pops concert celebrating the iconic sounds of the decade, from pop and hiphop to grunge and R & B.
In addition to concert offerings, PCC invites the community to support its mission through season subscriptions, advertising opportunities and sponsorships, including its“ Become a Producer” program, which helps underwrite performances and educational initiatives.
Susan Medley’ s Bravery in Action Pillar Award not only celebrates her individual accomplishments, but also reflects the broader impact of the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale and its dedication to enriching lives through music, education and community engagement.
PHIPPS CONSERVATORY RECEIVES‘ MAKING AN IMPACT’ AWARD
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens received the Making an Impact Award from the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums( MAAM) at its annual conference held Oct. 28 – 30 in Pittsburgh.
The award recognized Phipps’ Climate Toolkit Initiative— a global program created in 2020 to help cultural institutions address climate change within their operations and inspire environmental action in their communities.
The Climate Toolkit has grown into an international network of 248 institutions across 30 countries, collectively serving more than 120 million visitors each year.
Just prior to receiving the award, Phipps hosted the inaugural Climate Toolkit Symposium, bringing together representatives from more than 50 member institutions for two days of collaboration, learning and networking. Phipps President and CEO Richard
Piacentini accepted the award— noting the conservatory’ s long-standing mission to connect people to nature while expanding its reach through sustainability leadership.
MAAM honored Phipps for its creativity, resourcefulness and positive community impact— recognizing it as a model for environmental stewardship and innovation in the museum field. n
