MAYOR’ S MESSAGE
Mayor Robert J. Brooks Murrysville Public Works urrysville MUNICIPALITY OF MURRYSVILLE NEWS
Even though we still are experiencing some warm weather, we at Public Works are thinking about and planning for snow removal. That would include salt, equipment readiness, snow routes and checking roadways for water runoff problems that would create icy conditions in the winter. The Public Works staff is very proud of the service they provide for the safety of our residents. There is an updated“ Snow and Ice Control Plan” on the Municipality’ s website( www. murrysville. com).
The Public Works Department is responsible for keeping 154 miles of roads in Murrysville cleared of ice and snow accumulation. As snow removal and ice control operations begin, drivers will first clear the arterial and collector streets. We have 15 Snow Routes assigned to 15 trucks; each route consists of approx. 10 miles of roads and cul-desacs. In the event of a large snow amount, we will send pick-up trucks to assist in the cul-de-sacs. To see which roadways in the Municipality are maintained by another government agency, please visit the website.
Trucks will make two opening passes on all streets and then return later to plow the street full-width to the curb. Residents are advised to wait until after the plows have moved the snow to the curb before attempting to clean their driveway apron. REMEMBER, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO DEPOSIT SNOW FROM WALKS AND DRIVEWAYS BACK ONTO THE ROADWAYS – ORDINANCE # 921-14.

Residents and Property Owners can help assure the safety and efficiency of Murrysville’ s Snow and Ice Operations in the following ways:
1. Do not park on Municipal streets, especially during snow and ice events. 2. Keep basketball devices at least 10 feet from the edge of pavement. 3. Do not allow children to build and occupy“ snow forts” and similar creations within 10 feet of the edge of pavement.
4. Do not relocate snow from driveways and sidewalks into the paved street. If you pile snow on the up side of the driveway, the plow will not throw it back into your driveway.
5. Please trim trees so that branches do not extend beyond the back of the curb.
6. Pile most of the snow from the driveway throat on the traffic downstream side. This will minimize visibility problems and will save the homeowner excess shoveling when the plow truck comes through again.
7. If there is a Fire Hydrant near or on your property, please help the Fire Department by keeping it clear. Remember, the house you save may be yours!
8. MAILBOX DAMAGES – Public Works only repairs or replaces a mailbox and / or post if it is actually struck by the plow blade. We do not replace or repair any mailbox or post that is knocked down by the force of the snow coming off of the plows.
9. To contact Public Works during a snow event, call 724-327-2100 X 311. Please try and avoid calling unless it is an emergency as personnel are extremely busy dealing with storm conditions.
