SECOND ANNUAL VETERANS’ GRAVE CLEANING EVENT

Senior Helpers partnered with Delmont Presbyterian Church for the second annual Veterans’ Grave Cleaning Event, held at the church on May 16.
Community members and volunteers came together in honor of local veterans by helping to clean and maintain gravesites ahead of Memorial Day. They assisted with light landscaping, debris removal and general gravesite care as a meaningful way to recognize and remember those who served our country.
The cemetery is home to several notable veterans, including Richard M. Stout— a veteran of the War of 1812— and Edward Geary— son of two-time Pennsylvania Governor and Brevet General John Geary. Edward Geary was killed in action in Tennessee while serving under his father during the Civil War.
Veterans of other wars, including the Spanish-American War, World Wars One and Two, Korea, and Vietnam, are also buried there.
Senior Helpers created the cleaning event as part of its ongoing mission to support veterans, seniors and local families through meaningful community outreach initiatives. The organizers aim to
not only beautify the cemetery grounds, but also foster connection, reflection and appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans throughout the region.
MISSION OF MERCY PITTSBURGH FREE DENTAL AND HEARING CLINIC
Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh will host its ninth annual free dental and hearing clinic Oct. 16 – 17 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, providing essential care to individuals and families who lack access to affordable services.
The event will offer dental exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals, along with hearing evaluations and free hearing aids.
New this year is an expanded partnership with UPMC Vision Institute that will connect patients in need of vision care to a follow-up Community Vision Day on Oct. 18, offering eye exams and free eyeglasses.
Supported by hundreds of volunteers, the annual clinic continues to meet a growing need in the region, delivering life-changing care while helping people connect to longterm health care resources.
NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL IN CREIGHTON IN JULY
The inaugural Pittsburgh Music Festival will take place July 11 – 12 at Pittsburgh Brewing Company, bringing together a wide range of local musicians for a celebration of music and community.
Organized by longtime Pittsburgh music leaders, the event will feature multiple stages, diverse genres and a strong lineup of regional talent, while raising funds and awareness for Band Together Pittsburgh and Autism Pittsburgh.
Building on the legacy of the Pittsburgh Blues and Roots Festival, the new event will expand its reach and create a vibrant, community-centered experience.

NORTH PITTSBURGH QUILTERS GUILD TO HOST QUILT SHOW
The North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild( NPQG) is hosting a quilt show celebrating 250 years of the USA Sept. 11 – 13 at Ross Township Community Center, 1000 Ross Municipal Drive.
It will be held from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p. m. Sunday. Admission is $ 10. The show will have vendors, raffle baskets, a raffle quilt and a Treasure Chest filled with fabric and other quilting items.
NPQG is a nonprofit whose main goal is to further the quilting skills and knowledge of its members, through programming, local and national speakers, workshops, lectures and a sewing retreat.
The guild also participates in community service projects including making quilts for foster children, Quilts of Valor, blankets for women’ s shelters and items for cancer patients.
The guild was founded in 1981 when women from a community college quilting class decided they wanted to continue to learn and grow as a group.
Members are all ages and levels of experience, and the group is always looking for new members who want to enhance their quilting journey.
