EAST WINDS SYMPHONIC BAND FREE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
The East Winds Symphonic Band( EWSB) is set to deliver a vibrant lineup of free concerts across the region. Concerts began June 14 and will continue with outdoor and indoor performances in Monroeville, Ligonier, Munhall and Coraopolis through mid-August.
From relaxing evenings under the stars to cool escapes in air-conditioned venues, there will be a joyful program of band favorites for all ages.
Highlights include performances at the Tall Trees Amphitheater( July 6), CCAC Boyce Campus( July 13), Ligonier’ s historic Diamond( July 27), St. John’ s Cathedral Center in Munhall( Aug. 3) and the riverside park in Coraopolis( Aug. 17).
Attendees are encouraged to have lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor events and enjoy a summer of music made possible by local sponsors and community organizations.

AUBERLE CELEBRATES 37TH ANNUAL ALL- STAR BANQUET

The stars were shining brightly as Auberle celebrated the outstanding successes of many program participants at its 37th annual All-Star Banquet on March 26.
Auberle recognized the hard work, determination and resilience of participants in overcoming significant challenges. The celebration also brought together community members and supporters to acknowledge the transformative impact of Auberle’ s programs on the lives of the individuals, families and communities it serves.
EXHIBITION OF AARON GORSON’ S INDUSTRIAL LANDSCAPES WITH COMMENTARY BY MAXWELL KING
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg has a new exhibition—“ Works by Aaron Gorson, Words by Maxwell King”— on view through fall 2025. It features striking industrial landscape paintings by Aaron Harry Gorson, known for his vivid depictions of Pittsburgh’ s steel mills, alongside insightful commentary by Maxwell King.
The text includes excerpts from King’ s forthcoming biography,“ Fire in the Night Sky,” set for release in spring 2026.
King, a celebrated author and former president of The Pittsburgh Foundation, also selected and arranged the featured works, many of which are on loan from private collections. A special lecture will take place at the museum Oct. 23, offering deeper insight into Gorson’ s life and legacy.

FOUNDATION MODERNIZES AUSTIN’ S PLAYROOM AT THE CHILDREN’ S HOME & LEMIEUX FAMILY CENTER
The Children’ s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center announced that the Mario Lemieux Foundation has placed the finishing touches on an update to its Austin’ s Playroom, established in 2002. This renovation marks another milestone in the decades-long partnership between the two organizations.
Austin’ s Playroom, an innovative and compassionate initiative created by Nathalie Lemieux, provides a safe, fun, and engaging atmosphere for children and siblings while their families focus on health and healing during challenging medical situations.
The Children’ s Home & Lemieux Family Center has been a cornerstone of this enterprise since its inception, offering a welcoming environment for countless families.
“ We are dedicated to keeping every Austin’ s Playroom as welcoming and wellmaintained as the day they first opened,” said Nancy Angus, president of the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
“ We are pleased to provide a beautifully renovated, cheerful space that gives families who depend on The Children’ s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center comfort, joy and a much-needed sense of relief during challenging times.”
The revamped playroom features updated amenities and new interactive elements. Bright colors, engaging artwork, and a variety of toys and games create a cheerful and stimulating environment while encouraging creative, independent, hands-on play.
The Mario Lemieux Foundation is committed to supporting families in challenging medical situations and enhancing the quality of care provided at The Children’ s Home & Lemieux Family Center.
Established in 1893, The Children’ s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center has a mission to promote the health and well-being of children and strengthen families through essential services. Programs include Adoption & Permanency Services, Child’ s Way ®, Pediatric Specialty Hospital, Pediatric VIEW, Family Centered Therapy, and Counseling.
