Murrysville March for Parks
Residents and local businesses supported March for Parks in a big way with close
to 50 businesses and individuals from the Murrysville area providing sponsorships,
food, auction items, and 36 gift baskets for raffle. Dozens of volunteers, community
organizations, and hosts of entertainment and activities were ready as 450 marchers and
30 teams came to the Murrysville Community Center on March 30.
The focus of the Murrysville March for Parks was the extension of the Westmoreland
Heritage Trail from Murrysville to Export. When it eventually runs from Trafford to
Saltsburg, this trail will be 22 miles long. The focus of the Twin Lakes March for Parks
was an exciting new giant slide at Mammoth Park. The two locations together raised
approximately $95,000, bringing the total funds raised since MFP began in 2003 to over
$1 million!
These funds have been extremely helpful for Westmoreland County to match and
leverage grant funds from a number of government and private foundation sources, all
in support of county park and trail projects.
