The 22nd annual Joey Gombosh Fishing Derby, sponsored by The Rotary Club of Murrysville-Export, was held on Saturday, April 14, at Townsend Park. Cub Scout Pack 214 from Export sold hot and cold refreshments throughout the day.
‘ JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT’ CLOSES OUT STAGE RIGHT’ S PROFESSIONAL SEASON
Stage Right’ s professional theater arm brought down the curtain on its 19th professional season with Andrew Lloyd Webber’ s original rock opera,“ Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The production featured Renata Marino as the Narrator, Nick Lenz as Judah, Brian Mack Sweeney as Simeon, Jake Churilla as Levi / Pharaoh, Tony Marino as Reuban and Josh List as Gad / Potiphar.
In the title role of Joseph, two Stage Right students were introduced— Matthew Hommel( 18, Westinghouse HS for the Performing Arts) and Anthony Marino( 17, Hempfield Area HS). Both young men are set on pursuing theater in college and beyond, and have been performing on stage for most of their lives.
The musical brings to life the Old Testament story from Genesis of Jacob and his sons. The brothers, who are traditionally considered the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel, have a younger brother, Joseph, who is their father’ s favorite. Their jealousy of him leads them to fake his death and sell him into slavery. He eventually turns his ability to interpret dreams into becoming the Pharaoh’ s Vizier and helps Egypt avoid starvation during seven years of famine. His brothers are forced to go to Egypt out of desperation. There they are reunited with Joseph and forgiven for their crimes. And Jacob once more has his beloved son.
The musical was performed April 13-15. For more information about this show and future productions, call Stage Right at 724.832.7464 or the Palace Theatre Box office at 724.836.8000.
