District Earns Excellence in Communications Awards The Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) presented Cara Zanella, Director of Development & Communications, with three Awards of Honor for the District’s cable TV talk show, FR in Focus, and e-newsletter, Pawprints. FR in Focus won in the categories for news program and video production and Pawprints won for best 3-color publication. FR in Focus is a student-produced cable TV show that is written and hosted by Dr. Gennaro R. Piraino, Superintendent of Schools, and Mrs. Zanella. The student production crew at Franklin Regional Senior High School includes Colton Oakes, Nicholas DeSarno, Mikayla Dukoske, Julia Bahney, Chris Manka, Ana Lucci, Gabrielle Lee, and Cameron Stull under the supervision of Mrs. Becky Magness, multimedia teacher. Pawprints is written and produced monthly by Mrs. Zanella and is electronically distributed to FR families. FR Gets New Panther Logos Franklin Regional has a new, official set of Panther logos, which will take the place of the variety of “old clip art panthers” that the district was using. The new version of the Panther logos were a project given to the students at Franklin Regional Senior High School who comprise the Center for Student Innovation. The Panther logo’s designers are Tommy Christafano and Patrick Cavanaugh. Project managers were Noah Weiner, Jared Milstein, Sidney Beauregard, Morgan Birdy, 44 Murrysville Sloan Jumps for the Heart Sloan Elementary School students in grades K-5 participated in Jump Rope for the Heart, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Students rotated between Heart Stations that included jump ropes, hula hoops, exercises, partner jump rope, and wiggle ropes. The program helped raise heart health awareness with the students and staff. Jerry Antonucci, Kenna Gray, Bennett Verona, and Rachel Besce. The students worked with Mr. Zach Kessler, Athletic Director, and Mrs. Cara Zanella, Director of Development & Communications, to achieve the new logo design and concept. The new set of logos are components of the leaping panther. Components include a paw, a paw print, the head of the panther, and the FR logo combined with the Panther. The new logos are being Trademarked and Registered by the District Solicitor to protect the use of the images.
