AHN SCHOOLS OF NURSING ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR PART-TIME AND FULL-TIME NURSING PROGRAMS
First-year enrollment increased 53 % in 2023 ; applications for classes beginning in August will be accepted through July 1 .
Allegheny Health Network ’ s ( AHN ) Schools of Nursing are accepting applications for full-time and part-time nursing students .
Applications are being accepted through July 1 for AHN ’ s two nursing schools : West Penn Hospital School of Nursing ( WPSON ) in Pittsburgh ’ s Bloomfield neighborhood , and Citizens School of Nursing ( CSON ) in Tarentum .
Both schools offer full-time registered nurse ( RN ) programs , a 22-month curriculum with classroom learning and hands-on clinical experiences led by highly qualified faculty members . Small class sizes and one-on-one learning opportunities provide a personalized experience for each student .
Classes for both schools ’ full-time programs begin Aug . 19 .
The AHN Schools of Nursing have seen a sharp increase in enrollment , with firstyear enrollment increasing a combined 53 % between the two campuses from 2022 ( 116 combined first-year , full-time students ) to 2023 ( 177 first-year students ).
“ We ’ re thrilled to have so many prospective nurses who are eager to become the future of health care ,” said
Amy Stoker , PhD , RN , director of the West Penn School of Nursing . “ That growth speaks to the opportunity and need for outstanding nurses within our industry , and is also a testament to the caring , personalized approach our instructors prioritize to ensure the success of every student .”
CSON launched a new part-time nursing program in January 2024 , providing increased flexibility for students through evening and weekend classes stretched over 36 months . The inaugural class accepted 25 nursing students to the program — a promising start that nursing leadership hopes to expand upon in the future .
“ The response to the part-time program has confirmed our strategy to meet students on their schedule , to ensure they ’ re able to pursue a career they ’ re passionate about ,” said Ruth Tarantine , DNP , director of AHN Schools of Nursing and the Citizens School of Nursing .
“ With the flexible pace of our curriculum and opportunity to gain clinical experience in several AHN hospitals , both full-time and part-time programs ensure a seamless transition for students who wish to stay within AHN post-graduation .”
Applications for the part-time LPN-RN program will be accepted through July 1 . Classes begin Aug . 12 .
More than 90 % of graduates who seek employment as entry-level registered nurses will obtain a position in a health care setting within one year of graduation . Many AHN nursing school graduates are hired to work within the network ’ s hospitals with a highly competitive salary .
On-site , dormitory-style housing is available at the West Penn School of Nursing , while the Citizens School of Nursing has free on-site parking .
The AHN Schools of Nursing offer various types of financial aid such as federal government grants , federal student loans , state grants , scholarships , and private educational loans .
