In my eyes, there is no more prestigious recognition and honor. However, this honor belongs to the entire Franklin Regional School Community. I am so fortunate to serve in a community that values education and strives to create world-class academic, artistic, and athletic opportunities for students. As a superintendent, I know that the most important impetus for any MAJOR change is a staff that believes in a shared vision! It’s ALL about ALL of “us” continuously striving to get better every day and working relentlessly to meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of students. Therefore, it’s the students, families, custodians, maintenance staff, paraprofessionals, professional educators, administrators, board members, and our many partners that make our vision of excellence become a reality. I am so privileged to work with such an outstanding group of people! Each day, I also have the unique opportunity to collaborate with business, industry, healthcare, government, and education leaders to create amazing opportunities for students, employers, and our communities! Together, we are collectively making Westmoreland County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania an even greater place to live, learn, work, and play! In these politically turbulent times and with the significant challenges facing our society, school leadership is among our Nation’s most critical and noble professions. The success of our society is directly dependent upon our ability to make a difference in the hearts, minds, and lives of our students, families, and communities. That is why serving as Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year is not only an amazing honor, it’s a critical responsibility. As Superintendent of the Year, I promise to leverage this role to promote public education, advocate for all students across our Commonwealth, and champion the great work happening in Franklin Regional Schools! As I reflect on my time in the Franklin Regional School District and our collective vision for the future, I am filled with hope that together we can make an already strong and vibrant school system even greater! Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of ALL Franklin Regional students! Sincerely, Dr. Gennaro R. Piraino, Jr. Superintendent 2019 Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year
