The tenth annual TakeOff: Honor the Past,
Shape the Future Race to benefit the Trooper
Kenton Iwaniec Memorial Foundation is
scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at Saint
Vincent College in Latrobe.
On March 28, 2008—just moments after
completing his shift at the Avondale Barracks—
Pennsylvania State Trooper Kenton Iwaniec, a
Westmoreland County native and Saint Vincent
College graduate, was killed by a drunk driver.
On average, an impaired driver kills someone
every 50 minutes. Over 10,000 families each
year are destroyed by impaired drivers.
TakeOff is a race to honor DUI victims, raise
awareness about the seriousness of impaired
driving and encourage the community to
have a positive influence in the reduction of
impaired driving. All profits will go to the
purchase of Preliminary Breath Test Devices
(PBTs) for the Pennsylvania State Police and
other law enforcement agencies. To date, the
Trooper Iwaniec Memorial Foundation has
donated over 1,600 PBTs across the state.
With over 1,500 participants last year, the
organization was able to raise nearly $100,000.
