The Municipality of Murrysville is served by three( 3) volunteer fire departments: Murrysville, Sardis, and White Valley. Though most of the volunteers have full-time jobs and family commitments, they serve the community by dedicating countless hours in training and emergency responses. We ask for your generous financial support through our fund drives in 2017 to the volunteer fire departments, as they tirelessly keep the community safe.
In 2016, their accomplishments were:
Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company
In 2016, the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company( www. murrysvillefire. com) responded to 430 alarms for a total of 1,071 volunteer hours of serving the community. The leading alarms were automatic fire alarms and vehicle accidents; 284 of the alarms were in the VFC’ s district, while 146 alarms were assists to other fire departments.

The Murrysville VFC is always looking for volunteers age 14 and above, not only to be firefighters, but anyone who could help with fundraising events, maintenance of the equipment and / or facility or any other professional expertise that would help the community. Sardis Volunteer Fire Company: The Sardis Volunteer Fire Company # 78 responded to 404 runs in 2016, logging a total of 3,000 man hours. Calls ranged from EMS Assists( 10) to Structural Fires( 42). That number was down from the previous year( 2015) when the Department responded to 471 calls for service.

• Nine( 9) Members received their Core Requirements for Rescue Technician Certification.
• Nine( 9) Members received their Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician Certification.
• Six( 6) Members received Basic and Advanced Rapid Intervention Training.
• One( 1) Member received Emergency First Responder Training.
• Three( 3) EMT-B’ s received ITLS( International Trauma Life Support) Training.
• Company members received annual HAZMAT refresher training.
• Seven( 7) Members certified to the level of Firefighter II.
• Three( 3) Members certified to the level of Firefighter I.
• Over 100 + hours of in-house training on top of completing the aforementioned Nationally recognized certification programs.
Members
The Sardis Volunteer Fire Company is always seeking new members ages 14 and up to join the company not just as active firefighters. The Department relies heavily on social members to assist administratively or assist with fundraising efforts that keep the company going. No previous training is required! Applications are available by stopping at the fire station located at 5205 Rocky Hill Lane, Murrysville, or by calling 724-327-3987.

White Valley Volunteer Fire Department: Firefighters responded to 478 alarms for 3,450 total man-hours. The alarms varied from structure fires to vehicle accidents to brush fires. Leading the alarms for 2016 were vehicle accidents( 100), false automatic alarms( 112), structure fires( 30), and vehicle accidents with entrapment( 16).
The White Valley VFD has increased its average response per alarm by one person and with the aid of the State Grant program, the VFD will be placing into service a new UTV( Utility Task Vehicle), which will be used along the future rails to trails and other wooded areas for fire protection, and as a back-up to Medic One’ s UTVs for patient extrication.

Murrysville Medic One
During 2016, Medic One completed 20,779 details which is a 6 % increase from 2015 and a 165 % increase since 2006. The top five 911 dispatched calls were: Cardiac emergencies, respiratory emergencies, diabetic emergencies, injuries from falls, and altered level of consciousness. The average response time for 911 dispatched incidents was 2.8 minutes. Medic One’ s personnel logged 6,841 man hours of training and 1,637,308 career staffed man hours.
For most of 2016, Medic One continued to operate a fleet of 16 vehicles. In November, the fleet was increased with an additional advanced life support ambulance as an additional resource for an expanding service area. Medic One’ s Special Response Team, which consists of firefighter rehab, various rescue operations, search and rescue, roughterrain operations and dive team, responded to hundreds of incidents throughout Westmoreland, Allegheny, Indiana, Armstrong, Somerset, and Fayette Counties.
Medic One’ s CPR Instructors taught 53 CPR classes to individuals and groups. Our Child Safety Seat Technicians installed 49 child safety seats during 2016.
Medic One provided medical coverage for many community events throughout the year, including sporting events, community days, numerous benefits runs, Safety Town, a variety of kids’ events, and the food bank.
Medic One continued to maintain the“ Expert” level for Pediatric Preparedness by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and was able to improve its Mission Lifeline to the“ Silver” level, which is set by the American Heart Association.
