POSITIVE STEPS
We’ll Bring Your Child’s Therapy to You
I
f you’ve never had a need for therapy for your child, consider
yourself blessed. But every day, families discover that their child has
a need for physical, speech, developmental or nutritional therapy.
It’s for the children of those families that need them most that Positive
Steps works so hard.
Starting with home-based, early intervention services, Positive
Steps are introduced to families via a community service coordinator
that assigns cases by county. A child from birth to age 3, may be
demonstrating signs of a developmental delay as a result of a medical
diagnosis. In these cases, in which parents may find themselves
overwhelmed and feeling alone, Positive Steps evaluates the child
and the need of the family. If the child is diagnosed by a physician,
demonstrates a 25 percent delay on a standardized test, or given an
official clinical opinion that therapy is needed, families can choose
to have Positive Steps intervene. Establishing a child’s need is a free
process, funded by state and federal funding sources.
Once Positive Steps is chosen as the early intervention specialist in
the case, services are arranged at the child’s home, daycare or other
community environment. Children may receive therapy related to speech
and language, occupational, developmental and physical needs. Positive
Steps has expert therapists who each specialize in their disciplines.
Services are provided weekly, every other week, or monthly, depending
on the circumstances, and the family members are involved at every step
of the way as part of Positive Steps’ multi-disciplinary approach.
