SUPERINTENDENT’ S MESSAGE

Innovation’ s Flow: The K – 12 Academic Journey
From outdoor classrooms to high-tech makerspaces to career pathways, Franklin Regional is creating meaningful learning experiences that prepare every student for the future.
Dear Franklin Regional Community,
Innovation is more than a word at Franklin Regional. It is a promise to our students that their learning journey will be dynamic, hands-on, and connected to real-world experiences. From the first days of kindergarten to the moment our graduates walk across the stage, every step is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and prepare our learners for a bright future.
This year, that promise is flowing in new and exciting ways.
Elementary: An Outdoor Classroom Along Haymaker Run
Our Elementary Campus is the home of the Primary and Intermediate buildings, as well as part of Haymaker Run, which has recently been transformed into a living, outdoor classroom. Thanks to the collaboration of the Western PA Conservancy, Westmoreland Conservation District, Sportsman and Landowner Alliance, WPCAMR, Murrysville Area Watershed Association, BHE GT & S, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Municipality of Murrysville, six new signs now guide students and the community along the Franklin Regional Discovery Trail. From stream life to riparian buffers and wetlands, these stations turn a walk outdoors into an interactive lesson in science, environmental literacy, and stewardship.
Middle School: A Makerspace for Exploration
At the Middle School, innovations for the 25 – 26 school year take shape in the renovated library, which has been transformed into a hub of exploration, featuring flexible seating and a dedicated makerspace. With tools like 3D printers, Glow Forge printers and cutters, and an indoor robotics field, students can imagine, design, and build. It’ s a space where collaboration thrives, creativity is encouraged, and the 5Cs( Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Citizenship) are practiced daily.
High School: Career Pathways in Action
In High School, students want agency over their innovative choices. Through six Career Pathways( Health Services, Arts & Communication, Business, Management & Technology, Natural Resources & Agriculture, Human Services, and Industrial & Engineering Technology), students explore their passions and prepare for post-graduation. Hands-on experiences come alive through career and technical programs, internships, experiential work-release opportunities, College in High School programming, and AP courses. These opportunities allow students to see themselves not just as learners, but as future professionals, leaders, and most importantly, citizens.
Together, these innovations form a K – 12 journey where learning flows naturally from one stage to the next, always student-centered, always future-focused. Whether studying ecosystems outside, programming robots, or gaining real-world experience in a career pathway, Franklin Regional students are building the knowledge and skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
We are proud of the progress we’ ve made, grateful to our many partners and supporters, and excited for what lies ahead. At Franklin Regional, the flow of innovation continues, and with it, the bright futures of our students.
With gratitude and vision,
