A s many of you are now aware, Republic Services, the municipality’s recycling contractor, no longer accepts glass bottles as part of the recycling stream. Glass, when collected, often breaks and becomes imbedded in the other recyclables, such as paper and plastic. This contaminates and makes the other recyclables unusable. Currently, residents may take their glass recyclables to Bradish Glass Company, located at 24 Rainbow Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will take the following items: n Plate Glass: Window, Architectural, Tempered, and Automotive n Container Glass: Flint, Amber, and Green n Borosilicate Glass They can be reached at 724.837.5100. This fall, with the help of the Pennsylvania Resource Council the Municipality will sponsor a one-day event scheduled on Saturday, October 26th for the collection of container glass. Residents will be able to collect glass and bring it to temporary dumpsters located in the parking lot behind Veterans Field next to the Public Works garage on Sardis Road. If this event is successful, the Municipality will work with PRC (Pennsylvania Resource Council) to schedule periodic collection dates throughout the year. For those residents who choose not to recycle glass containers, please continue to place them in your waste stream. MURRYSVILLE ❘ FALL 2019 39
