Dear FR Community:
The start of a new school year creates tremendous excitement and anticipation! As an educator, I enjoy watching the faces of our students as they enter our buildings, rested from their summer break and ready to tackle the challenges of another enriching and rewarding school year.
FR is a district that successfully balances the three areas of academics, the arts and athletics. Our students are able to engage their minds in the classrooms with new and innovative programming. As one walks through the halls of Franklin Regional’ s five schools, students are engaged in the use of Hummingbird Kits, GigiPan Cameras, 3D Printers, drones, laser cutters, Chromebooks, and other innovative technologies. Additionally, students are provided with countless opportunities to engage in many meaningful and invaluable experiences, including extended STREAM experiences, College-in-High School, Career & Technical Education, and Advanced Placement Courses.
Our professional educators are steadfastly committed to ensuring that their students are afforded a world-class educational experience. Franklin Regional educators have demonstrated their commitment to enhancing the educational experiences of students through their innovative work as Digital Ambassadors and Digital Integrators, participation in the National Math Science Initiative( NMSI), and the successful development for Project Lead the Way in grades K-12. In this issue of In-Murrysville, we will share information with you about these and some other exciting educational initiatives.
The new school year also brings with it a revitalization of FR as we begin the first phase of our building / renovation plan. Franklin Regional is beginning the design phase for a new upper elementary School( grades 3-5) located on the existing Sloan Campus. The existing Sloan Elementary will also be renovated into a primary school( K-2) that will house our youngest learners. The Board of Education and administrative team facilitated a community-wide Feasibility Study that analyzed our existing facility conditions and established a facility master plan to address the long-range needs of our schools and community.
I am honored to serve a community that emphasizes and values academic, athletic, and artistic experiences for its students. As an education team, we remain committed to providing every student with a world-class, well-rounded educational experience that ignites a passion for a lifetime of learning and success.
Yours in education, Dr. Gennaro R. Piraino, Jr. Superintendent of Schools
