The Measure of Life. Our Measure of Success.
The most basic measure of life is the heart beat. In the
most dire of circumstances, living or dying is the outcome.
“Outcomes” is the trendy buzzword of the day, and it is rightly
applicable to healthcare. Nowhere is there a stronger responsibility to ensure the best possible outcome. Herein lies the
opportunity to do more - to actually save lives.
When someone dies from a heart attack, a stroke, breast or
colon cancer, people consider ill fate, heredity factors and even
a person’s lifestyle. What is not asked enough, nor demanded
enough, is could that life have been saved? And by who?
Premier approaches the care of our patient population very
pro-actively. To be clear, not everyone does because it’s
extremely hard work. Doctors, clinical staff and the patients
themselves have an active role in achieving success. And the
numbers tell the story, Premier patients and their doctors are
seeing success.

At Premier, we see an opportunity for prevention and life-saving intervention starting with blood pressure. The CDC reports
nearly 1 in every 3 adults suffer from hypertension. With only a
meager 52% having BP under control, the risk of cardiovascular
disease, stroke and death exist for far too many.

So, here is what we did. We made sure every patient, at every
visit, at every specialty had a blood pressure measure. We
trained staff to take blood pressure correctly every single time.
With electronic health records, we identified patients with high
blood pressure and set out to manage every single one. That
doesn’t just happen. It requires continuity and consistency
across the entire clinical team in every office at every specialty.
Every patient visit is an opportunity to fail or succeed.
At Premier, an impressive 80% of hypertension patients got
their blood pressure under control. Both, the CDC and the
American Medical Group Association have nationally recognized
this remarkable and life saving achievement.
CEO, Mark DeRubeis puts it like this. “People need to understand there is a report card in health care. Like everything else,
people should seek out those doctors or organizations with a
record of successful outcomes. Dominant names and brands
can be a distraction from real results. In our hometown,
Premier is a select organization providing this level of care.”
