PHI ® Pilates Rehabilitation and Wellness
New Location,
More to Offer
Owner
Dr. Christine
Romani‑Ruby
F
or the past 11 years PHI® Pilates
has been a fixture of Castle
Shannon. But a recent move
to a new building in Bethel
Park allowed owner Dr. Christine
Romani‑Ruby to not only triple the space
available to her and her instructors, but
also increase class offerings.
“We are a medically based facility
specializing in mind‑body exercise. All
of our instructors are knowledgeable,
some of them are physical therapists for
clients with special needs such as joint
replacements, neurological problems,
osteoporosis, back pain, you name it,”
explained Dr. Ruby. “People see ‘Pilates,’
but we do our technique differently from
other studios. We’re an
internationally recognized
program that uses Pilates
for fitness and wellness
as well as reahabiliation
tailored specifically to the
needs of our clients, from
professional athletes to
seniors citizens.”
PHI Pilates instructors
know how to challenge
you and they also know
how to recognize your
limitations. Being in tune
with people’s problems has made the
studio a go‑to facility for people looking
to get back to life and gain back their
strength after rehabilitation. Unlike a
gym or a drop‑in Pilates class, every client
starts with an initial visit that assesses
needs to determine which instructor or
class would benefit him/her the most.
“We don’t charge people for things that
they don’t need and we teach them how
to use the equipment and operate their
own machines before they get placed
into a class,” Dr. Ruby said. “They may
have back problems and be specifically
interested in the YUR® Back program.
We also have Pilates
equipment classes, yoga
and restorative yoga classes,
bounce trampoline classes,
TRX classes, Core align
classes—class packages
provide significant
discounts and we offer
discount pricing for
students and seniors.”
She added that class
sizes at PHI® Pilates are
approximately 8 to 10
people, with a roving instructor, giving
the feel of group personal training rather
than a large class. This method allows
instructors to continue to provide the
personal attention that clients need.
And yes, if you’re looking for a facility
where your overall wellness comes first
and you just want to take part in regular
classes, you can do that at PHI® Pilates
too.
“We have both ends of the spectrum
here,” Dr. Ruby said. “We have Steelers
who train here and high school athletes,
as well as our post‑rehabilitation clients.
We’re an international company that
trains instructors worldwide. But you
don’t see all that from the sign. People
don’t realize how much more we do here.”
She herself has authored five books and
13 DVDs on her techniques, and PHI
has divisions in both Japan and Korea.
Her YUR® Back program is licensed
worldwide.
