AN EVENING WITH JOYCE CAROL OATES

Mt. Lebanon Public Library presents...
National Book Award-winning novelist,
poet, playwright, and essayist Joyce Carol
Oates as part of its Joseph Wertheim
Memorial Author Lecture Series. Oates
published her first book in 1963 and has
since published over 40 novels, as well as a
number of plays and novellas, and many
volumes of short stories, poetry, and
nonfiction. She has won many awards for
her writing, including the National Book
Award for her novel Them, two O. Henry
Awards, and the National Humanities
Medal. Her novels Black Water (1992), What
I lived for (1994), Blonde (2000), and short
story collections The Wheel of Love and
Other Stories (1970) and Lovely, Dark, Deep:
Stories (2014) were each nominated for the
Pulitzer Prize. Oates has taught at Princeton
University since 1978. $20 general

Historical Society of Mount Lebanon:
7 p.m., Wednesday, January 11
Ken Hohman will discuss his book
Paperboy Days: Adventures of the Last
Great American Paperboy that chronicles
the highs and lows of delivering the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for almost eight
years. Hohman’s high-spirited memoir
and tribute to the vanishing trade of
newspaper delivery earned praise from the
Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh City Paper and Mt.
Lebanon magazine. The event will feature
readings, book discussion, audience Q&A,
and the author will be selling and signing
copies of his book afterward. Attendees are
encouraged to share their paperboy stories
as well. Join us for a nostalgic trip to Mt.
Lebanon in the 1970s and ‘80s.

Just in time for President’s Day, Ken Sefrass
returns to Mt. Lebanon Library to present
his living history talk on the presidency of
our 18th president, U.S. Grant.
Book Cellar History: Make it a Pop-Up
Sale

The library’s used book store will have a
special sale of good-quality history books.
The titles cover a wide range of historical
interest—from America and world history
to World War I and II and the Civil War. The
entire collection will be on display/sale for
one day only.
