ST. CLAIR HEALTH AND A GLIMMER OF HOPE LAUNCH SCALP COOLING THERAPY FOR BREAST CANCER PATIENTS
St. Clair Health has partnered with A Glimmer of Hope Foundation to become the first hospital in the South Hills to offer portable scalp cooling therapy for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This treatment, supported by a grant from the foundation and available at the St. Clair Hospital Cancer Center, helps reduce hair loss— a side effect that can deeply affect patients’ emotional well-being.
Using Amma™ devices, the therapy cools the scalp to limit chemotherapy absorption by hair follicles, with patients experiencing up to 50 % less hair loss. The initiative aims to enhance dignity, self-confidence and quality of life during treatment— with financial support provided through the St. Clair Health Foundation for those not covered by insurance.
MT. LEBANON’ S LAUREN GOLDBLUM FINDS PURPOSE THROUGH PHILANTHROPY WITH JWF
When Mt. Lebanon resident Lauren Goldblum’ s daughter left for college, she was ready to give back in a bigger way. A friend introduced her to the Jewish Women’ s Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh( JWF), and Goldblum was immediately drawn to its community of independent, thoughtful women making a tangible impact.
She quickly became deeply involved, serving for several years as a co-chair of the grants committee, co-chair of the strategic planning initiative and co-chair of the organization.
“ I’ ve learned so much about philanthropy, how to evaluate nonprofits, and how to give with purpose,” Goldblum said.“ We work collaboratively— every woman has an equal vote.”
She also values the diversity of perspectives across the foundation:“ It’ s been rewarding to meet women from all over the region and learn about needs far beyond my own community.”
JWF recently opened its 2025 grant cycle and continues to welcome new trustees interested in empowering women and girls through hands-on philanthropy.
Participation is open to all women— Jewish or not— who want to create change. Learn more at jwfpgh. org.
