SALVAGING THE FLEET
2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21
Most people have an understanding of the 1941 Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor. Few are acquainted with the
aftermath, in which our Navy undertook the job of clearing
the harbor and salvaging what was left of the U.S. battle fleet.
Turns out, due to luck and fierce resolve, a large portion of
the fleet was salvaged. Mike Plaskett will tell the story and
share photos, including ships being lifted off the muddy
bottom of Pearl Harbor and battleships being rolled over and
re-floated.
